I can't pretend to be objective about this: Gerald Wallace is one of my favorite players. Thus it was with a heavy heart that I saw the Bobcats draft Adam Morrison, since it displaced Wallace from his natural three. As The Big Lead pointed out yesterday, the franchise's long-term plan has to either install Multiplicity at the 2, or trade him before he walks in free agency.
This has all been assuming, though, that Morrison is the future of the team, that he's the lead scorer Charlotte so desperately lacks, and that Wallace is a complementary stud. After this week, it's not looking like this is the case. Like he suddenly remembered his own name, my hero is averaging a cool 18 points, 8 boards, 3 steals, and 2 blocks per game, wreaking havoc in the lane and making over half of his shots. He may have no outside arsenal, but the inside/outside/rushing in-between combo of Wallace and Raymond Felton is certainly one to be feared.
Then there's the talented Mr. Morrison. Since Wallace's resurgence, he's managed 11 points, 3 boards and 3 assists per contest, shooting a modest 37% from the field. He has all the poise and polish of an accomplished scorer, but none of the judgement or ability to adapt. Morrison is running through the same script that carried him through college, unable to address the situation at hand. And whereas GW is a DPOY in the making, Morrison actually makes it easier for opposing team to score.
Nowhere was this more evident than in last night's epic 3OT battle between the 'Cats and the Lake Show. Although Wallace fouled out, he was the Bobcats' scariest offensive factor, made some key stops on an otherwise-unstoppable Kobe, and was the spark for much of the team's resilience. Morrison, on the other hand, went 1 for 15 in role player minutes, and was leading the sideline cheers for most of the overtime periods. What's more, token white SG Matt Carroll has come out of nowhere to become the team's deep threat. So with Wallace playing like a forward, and some other pale dude holding down the 2, Morrison's all but invisible.
Not only did Charlotte pick a stinker, they got one who will have to earn minutes from their best player. If you're keeping track, that's a double-waste of a pick. Then again, life would be a whole lot more inconvenient for the Bobcats if they'd picked someone who deserved regular PT.
Adam Morrison Should Resign and Quit

time to learn a new game, system & strength.
He maybe slow & white but has the eye.Why pick on a new player with diabetes new to the big leagues DUDE? Johnny
By calling Adam "Pale" it showes how stupid you really are. We should take your advice, and tear up the guys contract? I take comfort in the fact, dweebs like you, don't make the choices. Do you even have a job? If you do, I bet the only choices you make, are to "Supre size, or not to super size. That is wrong. Do you think Larry Bird was just another "Pale Dude?" How 'bout Hondo? Or Cousey? Or Walton.........The list is longer than your attention span. Your kind make me sick, bringing color into a game that should know no color. Do us all a favor-Shut up.
Those other 'pale' guys you named were in a different solar system than Morrison. They are ALL-TIME GREATS.
Luke Walton may be an apt comparison, but he's a third fiddle in LA. With Kobe taking all the shots and pressure, Walton will get plenty of open looks.
Nobody in Charlotte commands a double, and thus no open looks for Morrison. And since he can't create his own shot ... yeah, it's a problem.
I bet the guy from comment #1 is really pale.
i am very dark, but technically "white." please, who do i hate?
Morrison had a horrible game last night against the Lakers. He took some good shots, but they just wouldn't fall. It's tough for a rookie to be consistent. But I think his physical limitations (not being an amazing athlete) make it tough for him to get shots off against good, physical, and athletic defenders. I still like his game a lot, but the Lakers game showed why he is having trouble right now. He'll get better though and have a great career.
THANK YOU! Good God, Morrisson has been abysmal. He does nothing but score, yet he's shooting 37%. His rebounding and ballhandling contributions have (predictably) beyond pathetic, and his defense is already a leaguewide punchline. I know the Bobcats aren't long on quality players, but why are they running this loser out there for 30-35 minutes a night? Actually, the cynic in me can take a guess, but I'd probably get in trouble for saying it. I know it's early, but I will bet anyone anything that Morrisson will go down as just another overhyped, white, top 3 bust. I can't wait for retarded sportswriters to give him the Rookie of the Year award because "he scores a lot of points".
ummm.he put up 30 tonight.....idiot.
the night before, donyell marshall had 29 and earl boykins had 26. tony delk once dropped 54. i'm sorry, but one good game doesn't change the fact that morrison has looked awful. if you'd ever watched a bobcats game, you might know this for yourself.
here's an idea for all you HATERS.
why dont you just lay off the guy.
he's doing the best he can.
and he is a rookie for crying out loud.
all rookies have rough games. no, wait. all PLAYERS have rough games.
you guys need to get over yourselves.
when you diss adam like that, you're just showing that your jealous.
so stfu. now.
Agreed with Alaina...With a salary much greater than yours ever will be, I think Morrison will continue to improve and live his life how he wants to even with your pitiful shots at his color, general appearance, and shooting efficiency. What matters are the points...He doesn't cause more than three turnovers per game, therefore the 37% statistic is a bit irrelevant. Playing time is twice the time of Primoz Brezecs, and Morrison is almost never out due to injury as is Brezecs a third of the time. He learned to suck it up. Nobody cares if you don't like him, his life will go on as usual.
P.S. People with the strenuous workout of an NBA player that have type 1 diabetes TYPICALLY tend to be pale. Do some research?
