Live From Vegas: Dunk Contest Disses Howard

Maybe it's an in-person thing, but for the most part I thoroughly enjoyed this year's dunk contest. The creativity level was very high, and Gerald Green's tribute to Dee Brown while dunking over Nate Robinson was certainly that. I must say though that I'm in total agreement with my fellow FanHousers that Dwight Howard did not get nearly the love he should have with his "sticker" dunk.

Howard's dunk where he slapped a sticker on the backboard at a ridiculous 12'6" was one of the more amazing dunks I've seen. Who cares how tall the guy is, he can still get WAY up there, and I don't see other seven footers being able to duplicate that feat. I think part of the reason Howard didn't get the 50 for this one was because of the audience's tepid reaction. Had he announced what he was going to do before hand, I think it would have brought the house down. Once people realized what Howard did (after seeing the tape measure), there was a huge buzz in the building, but by then it was too late.

The Dunk Contest rewards small players and yawns at the bigger ones, the assumption being that it's easy to dunk if you're taller. That's true at a basic level, but few can match Howard's athleticism, not to mention his creativity in thinking this one up. And since he didn't get the attention he deserved when it went down, I'm showing the video of his dunk here instead of the one that won the contest.
