"Kobe, you know there's no way I'm letting you guys get Kidd, right?
Who knew that Mike D'Antoni was the type of guy that would ruin your chances with the hot girl you've been working all night at the club? Turns out that the Suns briefly entered the Jason Kidd trade talks, presumably to try to cockblock the Lakers' attempt to improve their team for the playoffs. From the New Jersey Star Ledger:
And remarkably, even the Phoenix Suns called Thorn yesterday, according to a Western Conference official who did not want to be identified because GMs don't comment publicly on other teams' operations. Ostensibly, the Suns are worried about Steve Nash's chronic back problem, and even though they don't have the kind of salaries it would take to land Kidd, they wanted to get involved -- even if it was only to keep him away from the Lakers.
I know Nash has been out recently (with a shoulder injury), but as far back as his days in Dallas he's had back issues, and it hasn't stopped him from winning back-to-back MVPs. As far as making a pre-emptive strike to stop the Lakers from improving, that's a pretty bold move on the Suns' part.
I'm not sure if messing with the chemistry of one of the league's best teams just to spite a Conference rival is the best way to get to the Finals. Especially when there's no guarantee that Kidd would even help the Lakers. The Triangle Offense is supposed to take two years for a player to fully comprehend, and it's not like Phil Jackson would change the team's philosophy to accommodate J-Kidd.
It doesn't appear that the Suns have the contracts to make things work in a deal for Kidd anyway, but to me it's very surprising that they even entertained the thought.

kidd and cater both should just stay with the nets because that group of players work so well together and are great friends. it would be worse for the nets to loose them. i love the nets.
I'm just thrilled to see 'CB' is kosher on da 'Haus, I'm loving it!
WHY IS EVERYONE IGNORING ONE BASIC TRUTH: "YOU CAN
TAKE THE BOY OUTTA' THE GHETTO....BUT YOU CAN'T TAKE
THE GHETTO OUTTA' THE BOY!!!!!!!!!!"
Interesting how this highly speculative crap gets put on aol but the Fakers loosing 6 in a row even under the great Phil Jackson and the egotistical Kobe Bryant doesn't make any headline at all!
The Fakers don't need any help from the Suns to remain mediocre even though the NBA and the media fawn all over the Lakers, trying to present them as an elite team- what a crock! Now its Phoenix's fault they can't get better? I think the 11.5 games behind PHX makes a greater statement on reality that this baloney speculation.
all teams try to stop the lakers from making trades. the lakers didnt need jk anyway the progresion there in LA is better then to pick up an over the hill jk. the lakers is the best franchise in sports they never stay down long. to bad laker haters!
I don't think getting Jason Kidd is going to help the Lakers. He has been plagued by injuries and he is not as fast as once was.Right now the Lakers are a sinking ship, and there is no resolution. The Lakers don't have any good outsisde shooters. Yeah, what a great help Craponovic has been. They need a talent point gaurd(PARKER, NASH LIKE) and a good shooting foward(not a slow post up Odom). Good luck Phil, I believe you have encountered uncertainity, disappointment, and adversity in your prestigious NBA career.I bet you think of Michael Jordan and Pippen everyday.
I love how everyone picks on the Lakers when they are not winning three straight championships. The team has FIVE guys out give them a break. I would like to see anyone run a better team with 5 players out!!! The Laker did not trade the center of the future for JK, they are not stupid. He is only a kid and will be better than shaq in a year or two, He is only 19 people. When they get in the playoffs they should have all but one guy out!!!
Everybody dumps on the lakers, because of the butt kicking the lakers have dealt out to all teams over the years. Go ahead and hate, they WILL BE BACK. and they do have to play little punk games to do it.
Laker Fan 4 Life!
Hey Mike, sounds like someone is a bitter Suns fan. Yes, the Lakers have lost 6 in a row but we have 5 injured players right now. Despite that, we still have a better win percentage than last year. You're just pissed cuz the Suns have 0 rings and the Lakers have 14! There's nothing "fake" about that! The last time the Suns made it to the finals in 93', they got beat by Phil Jackson's bulls.
As for Kobe Bryant, you obviously haven't watched any Lakers games this year or else you would know that your statement is completely false. He has shown great leadership and dedication to the team this year.
p.s. we are 1-0 against the suns this year and 6-0 in the division.
kidd going to either team doesn't seem to be much help to them. even if it is it would be temporay and wouldn't gurantee anything in the playoffs. he should just stay with the nets cause of the chemistry he has with carter
JW - I think mike's comments were very immature and stupid, but he's not saying them because he's a Suns fan - he's saying them because he's thoughtless and immature.
The Suns and their fans have no reason to be bitter when it comes to the Lakers. They have few reasons to be bitter at all.
Lakers were terrific when the season started. They were all healthy except for Mihm. They are one season away from championship as Bynum will have this season's experience. He will dominate. Give Farmar more experience as he has the making of a great point guard. Sasha will be more confident and will shoot better. Maurice, Ronny, and Cook will provide a strong bench. Luke, Kobe, and Lamar will be unstoppable.
We don't need JK. Kobe can distribute and score as he has done this season. They are one year away from championship as Bynum will have matured and will dominate. Kobe, Luke, and Lamar will be unstoppable. They showed signs of that before all those injuries. They will have a strong bench and will have a strong team chemistry. Keep the personnel intact Give more playing time to Farmar so he'll develop.
Why isn't there a Dennis Johnson blog posted here? instead we have to look at Kobe?
jw and j... all i can say is bla bla bla... see what y'all say when the playoffs are over
