Buried at the bottom of a Dallas Mavericks notes column today comes this unbelievable whopper:Reggie on the radar? No way of knowing how serious it is yet, but Reggie Miller could be a candidate for the Mavericks' vacant roster spot.Owner Mark Cuban brought up Miller's name before Monday's game against the Hawks. The former Indiana Pacers star is the No. 1 3-point shooter in NBA history. He retired after the 2004-05 season, but remains in excellent physical shape.
And joining the Mavericks would give him the chance to do about the only thing he never did in his illustrious career – win a championship.
Avery Johnson said he and president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson have been discussing options for the open spot, but are not close to any decisions.
Hmmmm. Reggie Miller, fresh off partying at the Super Bowl and yucking it up in the TNT booth on weekdays with Kenny 'the Jet' Smith (whom Miller lost a shooting contest to during NBA All-Star Weekend) is being considered for a roster spot on the best team in the NBA. Seems logical, right? Miller's obviously lost a step or three, but in the waning moments of a game, it sure would be nice to have one of the best three-point shooters in NBA history as a No. 3 option behind Dirk and Jason Terry. This whole story seems like poppycock, but I had to come with it only because the photo of Miller cracks me up.

Just two things, Cuban has done his home work, he knows the weakness of his team during championship games, and he wants to make sure to score in clutch moments. Can't blame the guy for dreaming, which also can bring nightmares

It would be nice for Reggie to have that chance, but I don't know if he wants to be grouped with those players who came out of retirement & being a flop...we'll see what happens.

Born in Indiana. Been a Pacer fan for ages, and have now lived in Dallas area for 12 years. Reggie Miller is a phenomenal athlete and man. It would be an honor to have him join the Mavs - and yet another player for fans to appreciate and enjoy. Reggie's welcome here!!!

It would be great for Reggie to get the ring that unfortunately eluded him during his years with the Pacers but it wouldn't really be the right way. In the first place, its a disservice to the Mavs for all they've accomplished. Its like "you guys are great but I don't know if I can trust you to go all the way without adding a retired player to make you guys better." It would also not really be a ring Reggie earned since he wasn't a part of the long, disciplined road that the Mav team has followed to make this season so impressive. The Mavs can win it with the people they have- they shouldn't diminish what they've accomplished. Besides, adding a guy in crunch time they've never played with could mess up their chemistry.
