Chris Webber has dealt with a lot of injuries over his career, so you know he must be hurting when he called his current ailment "one of the worst" he's ever had. What is it? A scratched cornea, suffered last Friday when he took an inadvertent poke to the eye. From the Detroit News: "This is one of the worst injuries I've ever had, believe it or not," said Webber, who was scratched by a flailing Dwight Howard on Friday. "It's really painful. Most inconvenient because you can't sleep, you can't close your eyes. And then when you wake up, you can't adjust to the light, you can't drive without pain. It's bad."Fortunately for Detroit, Webber expects he'll be able to play when the Pistons travel to Miami on Friday. And fortunately for the fans, there's a chance he might be sporting some super sporty goggles. Personally, I'm hoping he goes for the James Worthy bubble goggles, but I wouldn't be too opposed to the tinted Bo Outlaw shades, which might actually come in handy if he's having trouble adjusting to bright lights.
Bad enough, he said, that he has to wear sunglasses all the time -- "like I am Michael Jackson or something."
Compounding the problem, the initial medicine Webber was given made him nauseous. The medicine (eye drops) was altered and he seems to be making progress. But the drops make his vision blurry.
"Yeah, I can't take the drops before the game," he said.
In any case, it's a good thing the Pistons got four days off between games -- not only is their March schedule simply horrendous (17 games, including five back-to-back sets, 11 on the road and a five-game road trip out West), but a couple of players needed the time to get healthy: in addition to Webber hurting, Rasheed Wallace took treatment on his injured left foot and Lindsey Hunter missed practice due to illness.

what about the time when ben wallace wore goggles, and when asked about the team's victory said "I thought the goggles brought the team a lot of energy. We all fed off the goggles." So webber's brief stint with goggles could... bring the team renewed vigor?
who knows, but that quote reminds me that i wouldn't have booed big ben on his return to the palace.
