John Denton in Florida Today reports that the league is looking at ways to crack down on futbolesque flopping to help clean up the game.
The NBA is considering giving referees the option of whistling players for technical fouls if they deem that a player has flopped in an attempt to get a call. FIBA, the governing body of all international basketball, already gives such latitude to its referees. [...]

San Antonio, perennially one of the league's best defensive teams, also seems to have cornered the market with infamous floppers such as Manu Ginobili, Bruce Bowen and Robert Horry.

Now that Shaq is in the Eastern Conference, I think this is a great idea. Dwight Howard has 35 offensive fouls this season. He's not savvy enough around the rim yet to outwit these human futons who slide in behind him and crumble to the ground as soon as he touches the ball and drops his shoulder. This could be worth 2 points a game to him just from the bogus foul calls, without even getting into the effects on foul trouble and playing time.

One Floridian athlete Denton glaringly omits, though: Dwyane Wade. If he falls down eight times, will he still get the call every single time?
