The question was asked earlier this afternoon: Will Kobe be suspended again? Your answer: Yes. Yes, he will be. From NBA.com: Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers has been suspended one game without pay for striking Minnesota Timberwolves guard Marko Jaric in the face, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations. One game? Are you kidding me?
The incident occurred last night with 58.7 remaining in the fourth period of the Lakers 117-107 (2OT) loss to the Timberwolves at Target Center.
Bryant will serve his suspension tonight when the Lakers play the Milwaukee Bucks at Bradley Center.
Look, I realize Kobe was just trying to draw the foul, and that isn't purposely trying to decapitate all foreign-born shooting guards -- you're next Pavlovic! -- but please, this suspension is weak. One game may have been fine the first time around (see: Ginobili), but dropping two Rick James slaps in less than six weeks? Well, I think that deserves one back. Not another "warning."
Think about it: If the league was truly serious about cleaning up its on-court image then wouldn't this be the exact type of behavior they would want to squash the hardest? Newsflash, Stu: punches don't really start these fights; the cheap shots do. Can you imagine if Kobe had tried to pull this crap on Ricky Davis, Stephen Jackson or Caron Butler? It would've made the MSG brawl look like teatime.
And oh, before some of you get all testy in the comments, please let it be known that, no, I'm not a card-carrying member of the Kobe Haters Club. (Hell, I don't even get the monthly e-mails.) I actually like the guy. He's definitely one of the best players ever. But please don't try and tell me that Kobe's shooting motion was "natural". It wasn't. End of story.

I agree it should have been more than one game this time, and it's not a natural follow through. I don't think Kobe is trying to explode people's faces with that move, but either way he needs to stop it.
As for "Can you imagine if Kobe had tried to pull this crap on Ricky Davis, Stephen Jackson or Caron Butler?" fortunately we'll never have to worry because none of those guys play any defense. But yeah, there would be blows thrown.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. The Kobe ass-kissers out there who huffed and puffed about Kobe's innocence with Ginobili do not have a leg to stand on anymore. Kobe is "shown up" again by an inferior player who cleanly blocks him at the end of a game, and he can't stand it. Arrogant and unsportsmanlike to say the least and reveals a lack of character.

Honestly, this is some str8 up nonsense. How can you judge a players intent? Stu Jackson is not at all in tune with todays players of the game. It is obvious that you have some forces that are against not only Bryant, but the entire Lakers organization. Could it be because Phil Jackson is getting too close to breaking Red's record? Who knows. As a fan of not only the Lakers, but of the NBA, I am thoroughly dissapointed with this decision.

Ant Stone, if you were being honest you'd admit that hack was intentional. Are you saying that Ginobili and this are accidental? Stu Jackson is a disciplinarian who judges his players actions within his understanding of the rules of the game. You have it backwards: it is the players who must be "in tune" with the rules of the game-- and Bryant wasn't in this instance. The league already allows travelling, palming, and bunny hopping. All these rules being bent only destroy any value for fundamentals and teamwork. If you have ever played the game on an organized basis you would understand this. What he did was cheating and thuggish-- no conspiracy theories are necessary. Just keeping it real.

It takes a special player to score the points Kobe
does??? YOu have to shot alot and not pass the ball,
push off, and travel often. Trade him for Nash and they would win more games....

BE SERIOUS!!!!! Kobe is going up for a shot and comes down. He brings his arm down after the shot and Jaric happens to be there. 1 game is to much, if anything it should have been a foul on Marco Jaric. If he meant to elbow someone, I think Marco Jaric would be the last person he would want to take out.

what the hell is wrong with you? Im not a die hard fan of kobe's, even if i like him, hes an awesome basketball player. it was natural.phil jackson says
that he will put up at least 50 clips of kobe doin the same motion, tryin toattract a foul. i agree that he should try to fix that but hey, that doesn't happen at every game. Im a lakers fan ... . . likely more a kobe fan and i am thoroughly dissapointed at this call. obviously you people don't like not just kobe, but the lakers team, you jerks. (to the people who hates kobe and thinks that he should get like a month suspended.)

I am a Kobe Fan and yeah I do not agree at all, yes it hurts to be on the recieving end of an elbow but I really believe Kobe did not mean to hit him or Manu on purpose and yes I thought he should of been suspended for Manu because Manu was bleeding but this new accident didn't call for a suspendtion because if this was so intentionally why was both incidents very simular and very alike if Kobe intended to hit him wouldn't there be something strange or different that would make it suspicious but there wasn't only telling you that this is a regular thing that kobe trys to do when trying to draw contact on a player who is defending him. Kobe didn't deserve this again and the NBA office sucks and I wonder if they can answer these questions? and Also why would Kobe do this if he knew he would get suspended, this was an accident and now since he is a star he has to pay for it.

Whatever a man sows he will reap. Look for Kobi to be accidentally elbowed in the face in the near future. I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen twice. Wait and see. This man isn't getting away with anything. He'll learn.

Why don't you look up some stats before you start saying who does and doesn't play defense... Caron Butler currently leads the league in steals.

They suspended Kobe one game for smashing someone in the face? Lucky he didn't do something serious, like take a diet pill.

Kobe and Shaq used to get away with even more so its no wonder spoiled Kobe thinks he can do whatever he wants. He should've gotten 3-5 games. He still gets away with a lot anyway- he shouldn't whine about this one at all. Kobe is no MVP.

Kobe is a cheap shot artist from way back. I'd love to see him pull that on Ron Artest or Jermaine O'Neal. He'd get more than a wussy suspension. Too bad the punk has talent but no class.

Kobe Bryant has always been a cry-baby prima donna who epitomizes the double standard of "I'm a good player, so the rules (on and off the court)shouldn't equally apply to me." And, speaking about equality, if I applied his own "chip on the shoulder" logic to the situation: He has struck two white players. Given that they were both white, and that there are few white players in the league...ah ha, Kobe Bryant must be a RACIST.
