It appears that the Scottie Pippen comeback train is headed to Los Angeles. The questions that remain are when, and at whose expense? Chris Sheridan of ESPN spoke to Phil tonight (insider access required), and the Lakers coach acknowledged that his team had contacted the league office to see about the possibility of adding a 16th player to the roster, which would open the door for the Lakers to sign Pippen to a 10-day contract.
The Lakers have been ravaged by injuries this season, but league rules state that in order to get the additional roster spot, four players must be sidelined with injuries at the same time for fourteen consecutive days. The Lakers aren't quite there yet, and likely won't get there because Luke Walton is expected to return before Lamar Odom reaches his fourteen days. Sheridan says that the Lakers might also consider waiving Chris Mihm to open that spot if the league doesn't grant the Lakers that extra spot.
As far as how much Scottie might be able to contribute, that remains to be seen. But Phil seems to think he could contribute something immediately:
"I have no doubts about Scottie's ability to fit into what we do because this is similar to what he played for a number of years. The biggest question is how many minutes could Scottie fulfill, and how many minutes would we need a player to play."
Let's face it, any help that Pippen could give the Lakers would be more than welcome, especially after L.A. basically fielded a D-League team the other night in Milwaukee while Kobe was serving his suspension.

Scottie would be valuable asset to the Lakers with his playing experince and he would attract casual basketball fans to the games since he was a member of the Chicago Bulls champiomship headlined by Michael Jordan.
I've always been a Scottie Pippen fan, but judging by his last 3 seasons with the NBA when he was still in his mid-30's, how is he gonna contribute now that he is in his 40's. Scottie Pippen should just save himself from the embarrasment and stay retired.
(Today) - (When Pip retired) = How fast you can do $70 million worth of cocaine with an anteater nose.
I hear that George Gervin keeps in shape.
I think Scottie Pippen would be a good addition to have on the court, with the Lakers. Because He would bring alot of intensity to the game of basketball, this guy didn't win 6 Championship for the Bulls in the mid 90's for nothing. He got rings to prove himself good as a player then. He still got something to prove even now. This guy know the Triangle offense like you wouldn't even believe. Sure Kobe is good and won 3. But that ain't Shit compare to 6 Rings. He is also good in the Playoffs, and that my friends is where it counts. Believe in Pippen. You get a championship.
P.S.
Sign Pippen, or don't bother going to the playoffs and not win. This guy will bring something Special.
lakers need scottie pippen as trainor to the useless to kwame brown
