We all know that Antoine Walker once was a Celtic. And the real headz can think back to that brief memorable period of Gary Payton: The Green Months. Yet despite their different experiences with that proud franchise, they agree on one thing: Greg Oden cannot save this team Gary Dzen at the Globe's Celtics Blog has their candid words:
"All [Oden's] going to do is bring fans in here," the Miami Heat point guard said in the locker room before tonight's game. "That's it. That's all they want. We aren't talking about no playoffs here. They're not going to the playoffs. If they're sold out that's good. They want to make their money."What I can't tell is whether they're dissing Oden, dissing the Celtics, or disdaining both. They go on to speak on the Celts' youthful personnel, the need for vets, and the pain of Paul Pierce, so the topic is clearly the Celtics franchise. However, discounting the power of a super-center in the threadbare East is strange ... unless you don't believe in said super-center. Actually, maybe all this proves is that NBA players don't buy into the same hype and assumptions that fuel fan, media, and management culture.
"If they get Oden they still ain't going to do [crap], period" said Antoine Walker, sitting just a few feet away.
I wonder what they would have said about Durant.

Seems like they just have harsh feelings for the Celtic's fornt office. When Shaq went to the Magic they went to the NBA Finals THAT same year. A big center like Greg Oden will turn a team around.

But...Oden WOULD save Memphis...
That'll be fun, even if it just turns out to be a dunk-a-thon.

While it would take a bigger pair of grapefruits than I could ever dream of having.... I'd trade Toine and Glove together in their primes for the mere potential Oden brings to the table.
Granted, I'm coughing up a workhorse forward and a HOF guard, but neither of them ever won dick until they attached themselves to Shaq and Wade. You can't do any worse with Oden.

The problem with Celtics is spelled AINGE. He has done a terrible job of selecting players, even though they have had some favorable draft positions. His trades have been pathetic. rivers will probably be fired but ainge is the one that's created their mess. No other GM in Boston would have lasted at long as him and it's discouraging to think he'll still be here.

the ownership of the celtics proves that pro sports is a business. they intend to make money-period. if the product sells, so be it and should they need to bring in something special to make 'the product' more marketable, so be it. they don't care about championships just the bank accounts and the celtics have shown this for a number of years.

They never said that. There is a reason this wasn't printed in the paper and was only printed by some stupid blogger because it isn't what was said.
Boston is still bitter then Antoine is on a winning team and they suck.

Did you watch the playoffs moron? Walker helped them beat Chicago and WAS the reason they beat NJ and he was big in their beating Detroit. He also had his moments in the finals.
Stop being bitter loser Celtic fans. It isn't Antoine or Gary's fault they wOn when they left your stupid city. Just like Paul Pierce is going to have to do.

Boston is still bitter then Antoine is on a winning team and they suck. Walker a big mouth by nature has never said anything he didn't mean but those comments sound nothing like anything that has ever come out of his mouth.
Oden has never proved he can do anything and Walker is allowed his opinion. Its too bad Celtics fans are so bitter at his success that they are biased against anything anyone not on the Celtics says. Too bad he never said these comments. I am calling this blogger a liar.

I agree that Oden hasn't proven anything. He's a good under the basket 7 footer but Shaq is the only 7 footer that plays under the basket in the NBA. Duncan, Dirk, Jermaine O'Neal, and Garnett will eat him for lunch. Boston needs a whole team not just a center.

Yes I am calling this blogger a liar. If it was a real quote it would have been in the paper.
Yes the Globe makes up stuff all the time. A guy got fired from this paper for doing just that. They printed quotes by Danny Ainge about him not talking to the Hawks about a trade knowing full well that he had been talking to them.
the globe and Herald both suck and have lied before and have gotten caught. Do some research before yelling at me for the liars that run Bostons newspapers.

The Celtics haven't had any size in almost 20 years. They haven't even tried to build a front court.
Why Not Draft the Kid. He's got Something that they haven't seen since the 80's. A True Center.
Every Great team has loads of size. Look at the bulls. They always carried 3 true centers. The Celtics Always had 2 legitimate centers and a Thug when they were winning.
Even the heat have 2 enforcers to back up Shaq. That gives them 3 Centers.
The celtics haven't had a center for over 15 years.
Tony Batie was the closest thing they ever had and he is undersized to play power forward.
They need big men. Even if they're not hte most talented guys on the planet. Paul Pierce is the thoughest guy on the team and he's only 6'6". That's point guard size.
Why wouldn't they go big. It only makes sense.
I just think they need to get some other big men to back him up. Even if they are minor league type players, or guys from europe.
Look at how the Orlando Magic have been creative in filling Shaqs hole over the years. They've use bigs from all over the globe. They might not have been the best players in the league, but at least they kept the team competitive.

Funny talk coming from two players on the outside looking in this year. Walker has such a big chip on
his shoulder agains the Celtics because Ainge would not give him a ridiculous contract to stand outside and take stupid shots and not give up the ball to anyone. The Celtics may have struggled this year but
it would have been alot worse being saddled by a contract that absolutely no one would take on. As far as Payton goes, he just has a big mouth. His time has come and gone. He was lucky to by on that Miami team that won the title, but it's time to move on to that big rocking chair in the sky. Tell Walker,
Boston doesn't miss him!
