Morning Hardwood: Testing, Testing

Now is the time to flex playoff form...

The beat is off. Nuggets knock off Jazz, 115-106. Why does this game matter, when none others do? Because that's seven in a row for the Nuggets, who have finally turned into the kind of offensive nightmare that AI/Melo was always intended to be. It's also five losses in a row for Utah, whose division championship is safely clinched but who still could be starting the playoffs out on the road. Anthony had 32 for Denver, Matt Harpring responded with 31 Utah points.

You call this rebuilding? Is it inspiring, or colossally stupid: with only a week plus left, the Sixers still have a realistic chance of making the playoffs. After dispensing with Boston 102-94 last night, they're three measly games behind Orlando for the eighth spot. Really, there's not much difference between barely making the playoffs and falling at the tail end of the lottery; those teams almost never move out of their predicted order. But in this kind of draft, doesn't every spot on the board count? Good tidings to Steven Hunter, who scored 20, and Celtic Ryan Gomes, another one of their endless supply of talented youngsters, with 26.

Pacers, too. If you say so. Toppling Milwaukee 104-98 was, well, not the worst thing that could have happened. And hey, postseason is still in sight. But come on, this team has been a wreck all season. Like they're going to be magically energized by a break of late good luck. Especially when they're counting on Duns, Jr. to score 25. Mo Williams had 23 for the Bucks.

Move along, folks. Miami over Washington. Detroit over Orlando. Dallas over Minnesota, albeit with KG out for the rest of the season. Spurs trample Kings. Suns beat Sonics, Rockets off Trail Blazers. Really, nothing to see here.
