The Lakers fate appears sealed - following their loss to the Clippers Thursday and a setback in Phoenix Friday, coupled with the streaking Nuggets winning again last night, Kobe and Phil seem destined for a first round rematch with the two-time MVP Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns. There's some chatter that the Lakers may not make the playoffs, but it would be too crushing for the league to not have Kobe in the postseason, so trust me on this - the Lakers will qualify for the playofs.
Last year's seven-game series was an epic clash, with LA storming to a 3-1 lead before the Suns rallied to advance on the strength of a clutch three-point shot by Tim Thomas in Game 6 and an overwhelming offensive showing in Game 7.
While everyone remembers the Raja Bell bush-league clothesline on Kobe in Game 3, I'll always remember this incredible Kobe dunk over Nash. It's one of the Top 5 in-game dunks I've ever seen. Is anyone not foaming at the mouth about this rematch?

This is hilarious!
"There's some chatter that the Lakers may not make the playoffs, but it would be too crushing for the league to not have Kobe in the postseason, so trust me on this - the Lakers will qualify for the playofs"
In spite of the fact the Lakers suck this year, Lakers fans and NBA marketers would have a heart attack if Kobe.. er, the Lakers.. don't make the playoffs-even if their crappy team doesn't even deserve to be in the playoffs! And on top of it all, you people think Kobe (er, the Lakers) are going to do some damage in the playoffs!
Since the refs somehow seem to make key calls for certain big market teams, maybe the Lakers have a chance... provided they even make it that far.
All the same, you people are delusional. The Laker team is passive and inconsistent because their greatest strength is also their greatest weakness. After the worst season a Phil Jackson team has ever played, they'll make a quick exit in the first round- provided the refs aren't paid off beforehand.
Just wishing Kobe were MVP and the NBA champ (oops.. er, the Lakers) won't necessarily make it so.
If the Lakers want to do anything next year, they're going to have to make some significant, nay RADICAL changes in how their 'team' operates.

I saw Ricky Buckets drag the nads over Nash's forehead when Davis played in Cleveland. If Nash were a cat, he'd be on life #6 right now.
Anyone who saw Phoenix dismantle Utah tonight saw Nash making 13 points, 18 assists and ZERO turnovers. The Sunds won by nearly 30 the night after dominating the "scary" Lakers team with defense. Even though the Suns only made 93 points, Nash had 22 and 14 assists.
The Suns have stepped up their D (even thought most of you think they don't play any at all) and the Lakers can't hope to win at all unless Bryant makes 50. Even then, there is no guarantee they'll win.
If the Lakers can hold onto the 7th spot- which remains questionable- they could win a game if Kobe goes wild but no way are they any threat in taking the series.
If you believe all that bull about how dangerous the Lakers are, I hear the Tooth Fairy is taking bets with the Leprechauns over in Never-Neverland. Good luck, fool.
The Lakers don't look at all like they did last year or even earlier this year. They had some injuries to key guys but it looks like their problems are more complicated than that. Every team has had injuries to key guys this year.
On the other hand, the Suns look better than last year, in spite of a couple of games where they seemed to have a meltdown. They actually have some defense this year as well and their defensive players are healthy going into the playoffs.
Who knows how deep Phoenix may or may not go but it doesn't look like the first round will be much of a contest for them, unless its Golden State or the Paper Clips.
The Suns are regaining the form they had in those long winning streaks. San Antonio is playing great but it doesn't look like they can catch the Suns.
The Lakers are quickly becoming irrelevant to the post season. That team has issues.
The Big Lead, either you haven't been watching basketball lately or you're a shill for the NBA. You are not in touch with reality.
Nash outside the circle and feet planted... charging! The dunk was impressive but says it all: Kobe is all flash... no substance. There's a reason why the Lakers record is inversely proportional to the number of shots he chucks every night. As Kobe's scoring romp of late in the season has taken off, the Lakers began their supreme choke. It's clear that Kobe and Phil Jackson are getting this exposed this year.
kobe deserved getting clotheslined
Hey Gosuns,
I bet your dad clotheslined the ump when you struck out in little league. I'm sure that must have been last year because you must be only 11 yrs old. Condoning intentionaly puting another player at risk for injury is pitiful.
AW GEE! WAS LITTLE KOBE BRYANT HURT BY RAJA BELL. MY
GOODNESS. WHERE WOULD WE BE IF WE DIDN'T HAVE OUR CRY BABY SPORTS WRITERS.
GIVE ME A BREAK. AS I RECALL, STEEVE NASH WAS CLEARLT MUGGED ON THE SIDE LINE BY LUKE WALTON AND OTHERS.
IT MIGHT LEAD ONE TO BELIEVE THE FIX WAS IN. I SEEM TO REMEMBER ANOTER TIME. WHEN PAUL WESTFALL CALLED TIME OUT. THE TEAM DIDN'T HAVE ANY. CALLED FOR A TECHNICAL FOUL. THE REFS. IGNORED IT. CELTICS WIN.
SUNS LOSE
KOBE BRYANT IS ONE EGOTISTICAL ASS. IF YOU CHOOSE TO KISS IT. IT'S YOUR CREDIBILITY.
Obviously some of you guys haven't watch any Laker games. I've been watching over 40 years from West, Baylor, Magic,Kareem, and your missing the best player in the World right now in Kobe. When your favorite team player scores 81 or 65 or 50 numerous times, yea 81! then come see me. The shots he makes are incredible. As far as the ref fix check out who gets the calls. The camera doesn't lie and watching replay I don't know how the NBA refs still have a job. Oh that's how, their never evaluated and have a lifetime job(Bavetta)i.e. Nugget game Monday 40+ free throw for the Nuggets,40+ for the Clippers game Thursday. If you don't watch the man you can't comment, He's very good a lot better than Raja that's why Raja clotheslined him out of frustration. He should have been suspended the rest of the playoffs not 1 game. Again if you follow the team you know what injuries have done this year they are a young team and people love to watch them as the usual road game sellouts are evident. I've seen it from Jerry West to Michael Jordan play and Kobe is in the same sentence just go ask the 2 All time greats.
jaime and gary- bla, bla, bla
Lakers fans are delusional. The Suns beat them last year and this year they have Amare. I hope the Lakers can hold on to 7th so the Suns can have a nice easy first round.
???There's some chatter that the Lakers may not make the playoffs, but it would be too crushing for the league to not have Kobe in the postseason, so trust me on this - the Lakers will qualify for the playofs.???
There's not much the league can do about the fact that the Lakers suck, but again, I hope you're right.
Oh.. and here's another dunk from last year's playoffs. Is that Kobe getting dunked on? Yes it is.

Jaime- I agree that injuring another player is wrong but if you feel so strongly about that: a) Bell didn't injure Kobe- he reacted after constantly getting elbowed and the refs weren't calling it. No excuse but understandable because Kobe throws elbows. b)why don't you say something about Kobe! He finally got suspended a couple of times because he tries to injure players who play him tight. Don't be such a hypocrite!
