Slide off the edge of your seat...
Nets in, Knicks out. No surprise here. Well, there shouldn't be. A team with Kidd, Carter and a semi-healthy Jefferson should be able to make the playoffs in the East. And a mediocre Knicks team with a good chunk of their talent shouldn't be able to. Thus, it was poetic justice that the Nets beat the Knicks 100-86, clinching a playoff spot for themselves and eliminating the Knicks. Vince had 25, Kidd had a triple-double, as usual. Francis with 22 for the Knicks.
Hornets out. It took longer than usual, but the Nuggets have done their second-half surge and it's wild. Eight straight for Melo/AI, after defeating NOOCH 107-105. Alas, it was the last Hornets games in Oklahoma, and made their playoff hopes fainter than ever. Melo with 31, David West put up 31 for the home-ish team, and Marcus Camby had 9 blocks.
Setting things straight. Suns over Lakers, 93-85. That was their 60th win of the season, and that was the Lakers creeping out of the postseason. Kobe went an unacceptable 7-26 from the field, ending up with 17 points. Utah topped some version of Dallas, 104-89. The Mavs had Terry, Stackhouse, and Dampier on the bench, but the Jazz were still happy to snap their five game losing streak.

Um, Kobe did not play all 48 minutes. The Lakers made a run and got it close while he was on the bench.
Lakers dropping out of the playoffs? They still control their own destiny with two games left against crap teams playing out the string. It's the Warriors that need help getting in.
Sunday's games involving the Clippers and the Warriors are probably going to overshadow the fading Lakers chances in the postseason... that is, if they really have any chances. Their weak play as a team doesn't even guarantee a 50 point Kobe love-fest is going to mean anything other than adding to Kobe's already prodigious (but meaningless) stats. His stats mean nothing in terms of his team's future this season.
