Mon frere Brett Edwards is right: This would-be epic between San Antonio and Dallas is more likely to resemble the D-League All-Star Game than Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. Dallas has cinched up home court throughout, and the Spurs are frozen in their 3-seed position. But honestly... it's Spurs-Mavs in April! It's gotta be great, right? Two factors make this afternoon affair worth watching:
- Flight White. James White, a Fanhouse favorite, hasn't played in the Spurs' last two contests, which probably means he somehow pissed off Pop. (My bet: James used one of Pop's 1990 Bordeauxs for sangria. Bastard.) But no matter -- the Spurs roster is only so long, and with Manu Ginobili, Michael Finley, and Brent Barry likely only seeing a handful of minutes a piece, Flight White should get some burn. And where there's burn, there's fire. Or something. If not, we need to seek and destroy Popovich. If not now, when?
- Jerry Stackhouse. Stack is mad because the league's suits won't let him wear 'Robinson' on his existing #42 jersey to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson's historic Major League debut. (This is the same league, mind you, that saw the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks wear green jerseys to commemorate St. Patrick's Day.) Stack + anger + national TV = fireworks. If Jerry or Mark Cuban (who I assume supports his player over David Stern) get mic time and don't earn a fine from the league, I will be disappointed.

Well, it looks like Mark Cuban did it again. Ref's were in his pocket for today's game. Especially for the incident with Tim Duncan. In all my years of watching and going to Spurs'games with Tim Duncan, I have never seen him be ejected for sitting on the bench and not saying a thing. What's the deal with Joe Crawford, huh. He must have eyes in the back of his head and very sensitive ears to know what was going on when he ejected Tim. As far as I and the ABC commentators were concern, we didn't see anything to cause the ejection.
Wow, I can't belive Duncan got ejected like that. What's next, kicking players our for smiling!?!? The camera's clearly showed he didn't say or do anything except laugh, while sitting on the bench.
I really hope they review Crawford for letting personal feelings interfere with his refereeing.
Joe Crawford needs to be fined and suspended for his irrational and emotionally fueled technical charges on Tim Duncan. The 1st technical was extremely idiotic. The 2nd one even more so, but I'll have to dis on Duncan for not being a bit more careful. I mean, if you have such an emotionally unstable ref on the court who obviously has a personal vendetta against you, perhaps you should be ULTRA cautious to do anything that might even remotely cause the guy to blow a gasket.
I sure hope Crawford is not ref'ing any of the playoff games, at least not any of the ones the Spurs are playing.
Nah, Duncan handled it the right way. If he really thinks Crawford has it in for him somehow, the best way to expose it is to get himself ejected in a nationally televised, high-profile, yet essentially meaningless game.
Don't forget, Duncan is the one with the psychology degree.
If you have ever watched a Spurs game you have to know that Tim complains and argues after every single call that goes against him or that he think he should have got. I know he is not the only player who complains, but he does it on the most consistant basis and really never gets technicals.
I can only imagine that all this complaining has been getting Joey Crawford worked up for years and the man finally couldnt take Tim's humble disagreement with each and every call and exploded as we all saw on Sunday.
I dont understand why he complains so much when his team commits the least amount of fouls in the league, unless its all the chatter the Spurs spout out that intimidates the refs into giving them the calls?
Dont get me wrong, Tim is obviously a good mild mannered person and if he is a great player(like so many believe) he should let his game do the talking.
No doubt about it, Crawford was out to get Duncan or Cuban paid him off handsomely to do the biz on his behalf. How can the most mild-mannered, modest player in the league get ejected for LAUGHING is beyond anybody with any sense and love of the game. Stern should get Crawford out before it's too late...
Lau are you crazy, why in the world would Cuban pay off an official during a game that means nothing. By the way the only person paying the refs to do his bidding is David Stern and he would not appreciate other people paying off his refs. Tim Duncan is mild mannered but that dont mean he doesnt cry after every single call that dont go his way. Many players complain but Tim and the rest of the spurs for that matter have been known to take it to an whole new level. Crawford should have had more restraint in his actions cause it looked like two crybabies about to have a cat fight (Real Mature and another positive message from the NBA). I think Crawfords crazy ass would give Tim a nasty infection from a bite to the calf if they did fight, thats if Crawfords teeth dont fall out. I dont think Tim knows how to throw a punch hes probably more into slaping.
Jared you are obviously a Mav fan. The excuse that Duncan or any player always whines does not give the ref reason for ejecting him when he laughs. This is most definitely one of the top 5 worst calls in modern NBA. Crawford has no business refereeing professional games.
Yes i am a MAVs fan and i was only speculating why a ref would do something this outlandish and that was the idea i came up with, aside from the fact that Crawford has obvious mental issues.
And to everyone who claims Mark Cuban is paying off officials that is the dumbist shit i have ever heard. We all know David Stern openly hates Mark Cuban with a passion. You dont think Stern would catch wind on Mark paying off his crony refs? The only person paying off the refs is Stern. So blame him for the Timmy ejection. Like Stern would let cuban pay off his goons, you who think this are morons. Karen comment 1 for example.
