Warriors' coach Don Nelson was all smiles at practice today, and why shouldn't he be? His team got an important road victory in Game 1, ripping the home court advantage away from the club that finished the season with the best record in the NBA.
Nellie is downplaying his team's early success though, and in a radio interview ($) with ESPN's Dan Patrick, he went as far as to say that Dallas is pretty much guaranteed to win Game 2:
"I think they'll do just fine the second game, they'll be dominant as they should be, and they'll probably mop us up, you know what I mean?
We've got a better chance to get hit by lightning than to win tomorrow night."
Well there you have it, just go ahead and mark the Mavs down for the win in Game 2. Uh, yeah right, coach. Nellie was obviously "going to the Lou Holtz card," as Dan Patrick put it, and I seriously doubt that he thinks his team has no chance tomorrow. As someone who's rooting for the Mavs, I can tell you that it's not going to be that simple. I fully expect a Dallas victory in Game 2, but only if Avery Johnson stops making stupid coaching moves in the playoffs, and if Dirk adjusts his game to play in the post more against the smaller defenders. If those two things happen, then I would be fully inclined to agree with Nellie.
