Cheers to the Loyal Warriors Fans

If you scroll through the NBA posts here at the FanHouse, you'll see that almost every blogger has caught a case of Warriors fever (notable exception: Brett Edwards). In fact, the entire nation beyond a 50-mile radius of Dallas has boarded the Golden State bandwagon.

Of course, it's easy to get behind a team when they're putting together magic shows against a love-to-hate franchise. What's hard is sticking with a team when they're stinking it up, and even most Bay Area residents can't say they've always been faithful to their wandering Warriors. At a timeout during every home game, the Warriors hype crew honors a Season Ticket Holder of the Game. Every honoree gets applause from the crowd, but those who have held season tickets throughout the 12-year playoff drought also get audible gasps. Even current fans at the Oracle are impressed with such fan avidity.

If you want to know what being a Warriors fan through the years has been like, check out this essay from loyal Golden State of Mind commenter Zorgon, a teenager who lives in Oklahoma City. Keep in mind that this was written last summer -- before the season started, before Nellie made his re-debut, before the blockbuster trade, before the playoff run:
Well, it started [with] this totally awesome new game: NBA Live 98!!!! ... We had to decide on a team to use, so we picked the worst one, The Golden State Warriors. To me, it was the greatest team ever...

Everyone at school laughed at me for cheering for such a terrible team, and that's when I realized why I stuck with them all of these years. It is to cheer for your team, through and through. Whenever the Warriors win the championship, be it 2007, 2015, 2036, or 2079, I can say that I stuck with them through and through, no matter how bad the situation got. And that, to me, is why I've stuck with them, and what being a fan in general is all about.
So when you hear the Thunder-ous cheering during tonight's Game 6, think of Zorgon. And pray to the basketball gods that Golden State wraps this series up like a burrito!
