Kobe Denies Trade Demand

Laker haters, it was too good to be true: Kobe Bryant told the Los Angeles Times he never demanded a trade if Jerry West isn't brought back to the Lakers' front office.
"I would love for him to be a part of this," Bryant said. "But it's not something where I demand he comes here. All I can do is offer my thoughts. I love being a Laker. I want to retire a Laker. I want to fix this thing, or at least help any way I can."
(Ric Bucher blows things out of proportion to get attention?! I'm shocked! Seriously though, it worked and that's only vindication for the shoddy/dishonest method of reportage displayed. Until we all stop believing the Four-Letter, of course.)

The Times' Mike Bresnahan does the heavy lifting on how feasible a West return actually is. Current LAL GM Mitch Kupchak is a friend and disciple of The Logo, which could make things somewhat uncomfortable. And Phil Jackson was reportedly at odds with West during Jerry's previous tenure, though Bresnahan does his best to dispel lingering tension.

As hypothesized, this episode was just another push by Camp Kobe to make sure we all know THINGS ARE NOT OKAY. Kobe's doing everything he can to get a superstar running mate. This isn't an uncouth babbler we're talking about -- this isn't Ron Artest saying he wants to go play ball in the Bundesliga. This is Kobe Bryant. He knows exactly what he's doing, and Ric Bucher (and the rest of us, really) were just his tools.
