ESPN's Marc Stein reports Milwaukee guard Maurice Williams is prepared to take less money than the Bucks would pay him to play for the Heat.Eschewing free agent cash for a winning situation isn't unheard of -- Grant Hill did this last week. But for a young guy who's made only $6 million in his career to date? This is Mo's best chance for a big contract -- if he signs for four or five years, he's starting at the wrong side of 30 when his market again arrives.
I know we're supposed to be all for 'winning over money' and all that noise... but Mo needs to look out for Mo. Six years and $55 million is a lot different than five years and $36 million. Take the money.

Would that extra money from Milwaukee really make him any more happy, or drastically improve his quality of life? Like maybe he could afford to by 5 yachts instead of 3. I reallize he's leaving a considerable amount of cash on the table, but how much impact on his life would that cash discrepancy really have? Who wouldn't want to live on South Beach and play with 2 All-Stars (I know I'm stretching a bit with Shaq at this point) and one of the greatest coaches EVAR. I'm sure he'll be able to "feed his family" fairly well with either deal. Where would you rather live: Milwaukee or Miami? Play with Dwyane Wade and Shaq or Michael Redd and Andrew "Why are these negroes so flashy" Bogut? Be coached by Pat Riley or, um, whoever the Bucks coach is. Play on national TV 15 times a year, or never play on national TV? Honestly, leaving the Midwest for South Florida is almost always a good idea.

First, the Heat may have offered Williams an early opt out, so he can renegotiate in 3 years (when he is 27). Second, Florida has no state income tax, so 35 mil in FL is like 40-42 mil in WI. Third, Williams will have zero exposure in Milwaukee as compared to Miami. Fourth, where would you want to live?

lol, you guys are getting more and more inaccurate everyday. Milwaukee is NOT offering him $55 million, more like $40 to possibly $45 million.

This isn't about money. This is about South Beach Babes versus Wisconsin Cheese Eaters. No contest.

Tom, you can't be serious. He's only made $6 million to date, playing freaking basketball! How much have we made in our careers? And 5 years $36 versus 6 years $45 million...how much difference is that really? Is he just scraping by with only $36? "We make a lot of money, but we spend a lot of money too"
We should applaud him, end of story.

good points all around. yall already covered most of what i wanted to say (the 3 year option, income tax, exposure).. of course, with that Miami exposure comes the possibility of endorsements that may cover the differences in contracts.
if he can put up 17 & 6 in Miami and help get the Heat a little deeper into the playoffs than a first round sweep (LOL) his stock can only go up.
nobody wants to play in Wauk-town. not even that Chinese guy who could be cooking Kung Pao chicken for Chairman Mao if not for the NBA.

Lol Bambino...The Bucks are seriously in a state of hurt right now. Maybe if they can get Yi to come to Mil-wok-ee and play, he can bring the ball up the court in Mo's place....that is if he's done cooking the Kung pao chicken for chairman Mao.

Yi will play in Brew City next year. If not, make note of Rashard Griffith's brilliant career in Turkey. Yi, Bogut, Redd, Simmons, Charlie V, and Ruben are a pretty good ballclub for a few years to come. Whats up when Shaq Daddy finally hangs it up after maybe next year if he's healthy that long? Suddenly Mo would be pitchin' to Wade and Wade alone instead of the more balanced Bucks for several years. A healthy bunch of defensive minded ball players and Coach might be a better match for a longer haul. Mo will stay. Milwaukee offers a better quality of life at a much better price and the VAST MAJORITY OF US SPEAK FRIGGIN' ENGLISH! Well except Yi. And the all the cabbies. Screw marketing, Mo is loved here and will get all the TV shows and radio shows and car billboards he wants up north, plus it is a damn sight safer place to raise a family. Ask Latrell he still parks his yacht in the harbor. And there are more and better golf courses here. You ever play on that crap sandy saw grass stuff? We got real lawns, we got fresh air, less than 1/2 the humidity, and there are alot more babeage here than you would think. I've seen far more skank inbred freak parade floridian chicks than I care for. Granted South Beach is nice, many more hookers and crack dealers than we've got. There are some A#1 hot model babes down there, but if you just want to bone a babe you can do that there anytime you roll into town to play the Heat. You can fly out of Milwaukee to anywhere in the US, more travelers from Milwaukee to Vegas than any other city in America, ask Funjet! And our homes and businesses are covered in mold! How much is water going to cost him down there? You can wash your Ferrari with as much water as you want and as often as you want and not damage the eco-system or get fined.
Mo stays, he wants his Speed Queen BBQ!
