On paper, there's nothing all that impressive about James White -- he's a 24-year-old, 6-foot-7 swing man who got into just six games for the Spurs this season. But of course, the game isn't played on paper, it's played in my computer monitor, and through the power of video I've seen James White do extraordinary things. Such as this, and this, and, of course, this. So, months after White rode the pine en route to an NBA Championship ring, I was sad to learn that the Spurs waived White on Monday. I can't say the team didn't give him a fair shake -- they gave him one last look at the Las Vegas Summer league and apparently didn't like what they saw.
To be honest, I'm not all that sure his skills can translate to the team game, but he's clearly one of the most athletic players out there, and for what it's worth he was considered a solid defender coming out of college. The fact that he can't hold down a roster spot for the World Champion Spurs does not preclude him from latching on elsewhere, hopefully with a younger team that plays at a more up-tempo pace so that we can enjoy seeing what he does best -- and that is, "create highlight reels" -- on a semi-regular basis.

If Flight can't find a new team in the NBA, I think I'll finally know it's time to move on. Maybe I'll start watching soccer.

Yeah, someone will be able to get him for a relatively cheap price and he could be a steal, he's got that magic word.. potential.. and I guess he is alright at throwing down.

Remember when the whole FanHouse was clamoring for White to be included in the Dunk Contest? This is why he didn't make it, you have to have NBA skills to play, not just jump really high.

Some other Western Conf team will pick him up for some inside knowledge on the Spurs he's sure to have.Other than that, yea he's got potential and only through some playing time will we all see if he's got it or not. Personally, I think the Summer league is a joke and I can't believe why any team would drop a player that didn't perform so well there.
