That's Kareem Abdul-Jabbar talking with legendary Lakers announcer Chick Hearn before a game against the Jazz on April 5, 1984. Of course, it wasn't just any old game, it was the game that Abdul-Jabbar broke Wilt Chamberlain's scoring record, and it happened at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, of all places, where the Jazz played 10 games that season as an alternate home court.
I love how the interview bounces just about everywhere, and it's interesting how Abdul-Jabbar advocates for college freshman being forced to sit out a year before playing NCAA ball -- the next high school kid who complains about not being able to jump directly to the NBA should be happy he wasn't born 30 years earlier.
While I understand Johnny Most was a great hometown guy, nobody ever gave you as good a view of the details of game like Chick. Even over the radio you could see every play develop in your mind because of his amazing knowledge and detail announced in each play. Although an admitted Laker lover, he never failed to let us know when the Lakers did wrong either. A true objective voice in the NBA and a lover of ALL teams and players. Not just a 3-pack a day voice clammoring for his own team.
Chick is the best ever, though he had some significant personal tragedies during his career (loss of both children) it never affected his announcing. Kareem has the scoring record, Chick may have the consecutive games announce streak.
BTW, did you see that half time score 77-69, Chick must have had fun doing that game.

Sorry Johnny, I didn't hear that, you sound like you just swallowed sandpaper. By the way, did Havlicek really steal the ball?
