Is it too late to change those MVP Power Rankings? Superstar players have a history of crazy performances at Madison Square Garden, and LeBron was no exception tonight against the Knicks. King James put up a stat line for the ages, pouring in 50 points and handing out 10 assists, making him only the third player in the last 20 years to accomplish such a feat.
This wasn't one of those "50 points on 50 shots" kind of games, either. LeBron shot 16-30 from the field, 7-13 from downtown, and hit 11 of his 16 free throw attempts. Just an absolutely dominating display, matching all-time greats Michael Jordan and ... Stephon Marbury? That's right, we may forget with all the recent drama, but one upon a time Marbury was actually a pretty good basketball player. He was the last one to put up stats like these, with a 52-12 line in an overtime game back in 2001. And of course Jordan did it too, with a 57-10 line in 1992.
When it comes to statistical insanity, LeBron's right up there with the best of them. The Garden crowd was heard reciting the now-overplayed M-V-P! chant in the final minute, just as Kobe heard the night before in -- of all places -- Sacramento. With these two superstars getting this type of serenade on the road, it's no wonder that they're neck and neck in the race for the MVP. And the way they have separated themselves from the pack, you'll be hard-pressed to complain if either one of them gets the trophy, no matter which team you feel is worthy of your allegiance.

There is no question that Lebron is going down in history as one of the greatest players in the NBA. The funny thing is that I was just at Staples Center in Los Angeles when I saw an photo of Kobe defending LeBron and both players had autographed it. A few days later Kobe is getting his name chanted MVP in Sacramento and Lebron puts up 50. Go figure.

@JCTOWNS
if you call him "hands down the best basketball player in the league right now", wouldn't that automatically make him the best active player? or is there someone better than him right now in the league that isn't playing?
i'm confused.

If this was Kobe, it would be 50 plus points and 2 assists. Let me repeat that again, 2 assists.

We have just started to see what King James can do. The next 10-14 years of him will convince everyone that LeBron is, one of the top 5 players to ever play,,,at all, in any league. Barring injury he will blow past all the records. Can you say bye-bye to Jordan,,,thank goodness. I see where Jordan did this, go back and tell me his shooting stats from that game, I am sure they are like most of Jordans games,,,,11/37 shooting with 30/34 free throws. Jordan got more calls than Heidi Fleis. LeBron, for his age, blows Jordan away.

Mike: apparently you are not aware that, if not for Jordan's ill-fated comeback with Washington, he would have finished his career with a FG% greater than 50%. As it stands, Jordan's 49.7% is still significantly better than Lebron's current 46.7%.
Oh, and the game you're referencing? Jordan was 22-37.

Knuckleheads, it was against the Knicks, the Knicks for God's sake.
The game was of no conequence whatsoever, much like the Suns games nowadays.
LeBoring would have had the same numbers if he played against a junior high girls basketball team. No more, no less.
When the game's on the line, when those shots come-up short as do his free-throws.
The Knicks, for God's sake, the Knicks.
The guy is a football player pretending to be a basketball player.

Jordan is not behind Russell in championship wins. That distinction belongs to Robert Horry with 7 rings.
As far as "LeBoring" being a football player pretending to be a basketball player...only a person with minimal basketball knowledge would say something that inept. With LeBron we are witnessing the evolution of the basketball player. There is no denying his rightful place as the heir apparent to basketball's throne.
To quote Ash, "Hail to the King, baby!"

Hey Richard, who cares that it was the Knicks? Seriously, did you happen to catch his playoff performance last year against an amazing Detroit team? Unstoppable.
It really doesn't matter who he plays, if he wants he can do it to anyone.
I got goosebumps watching his highlights from last night, the guy just plain took over...
I'm not going to lie, I AM A WITNESS and have been for years.. (grew up in Cuyahoga Falls, OH -- right next to a high school called St. Vincent-St. Mary), I just don't think it's HIS time.
If Kobe Bryant does not recieve his MVP honors this year, we will have to file a report with the L.A.P.D. cause he will have been robbed.

Just because Lebron put up 50 points against the ultra lame Knicks hardly makes him MVP. Big deal. They suck. Now if it was done against power houses like the Lakers or Celtics it would mean something. But the Knicks? Get serious.

Hey make no mistake, Kobe is a great player and probably for the first time deserves a MVP. Having said that. You La la a-holes are smoking too much bad weed. You are so out of touch with reality because your stinkin Fakers haves finally won some games. Let's see how they do in the playoffs against real teams big mouths. Yeah, I mean you Weissgonads. This isn't a Sun's post but you still have to blow diarreah all over your keyboard anus.

Lebron is in troubled a genius in the Cavs group gave Lebron a new ( worst) roster ever ; Lebron may score 120 points and the Cavs will still need another 20 points from somebody else ? in order to win against the good teams in the NBA like Gasol and KG he should find another team A.S.A.P.,Done.
