Baron Davis Is Confident He'll Be Elton Brand's Teammate

After Baron Davis broke the Warriors' hearts by opting out and agreeing to become a Clipper, Golden State did the logical thing and offered the Clippers' star free agent a max deal to come and play in the Bay area. Seems only fair, right? Make a bigger offer to Elton Brand than the Clippers are able to because of that dang salary cap, and maybe, just maybe, the Warriors could end up being the better of the two clubs when all is said and done.

If you're like me, however, then (besides having a Baron-like beard at the moment after not shaving for a while) you don't believe for a second that Davis agreed to become a Clipper without first speaking to Brand and getting assurances that the two would play together. Now Baron doesn't admit this of course, (because that would probably have broken some sort of league tampering rule had it occurred) but he does sound pretty sure of himself when talking about playing with Elton Brand in L.A. this season.

"I cant wait to have an opportunity to play with one of the best big men in the game and one of the best underrated big men in the game," Davis said. "It's really a big reason why I wanted to do it. Just having somebody I can give the ball to and make plays."

"I'm not worried," Davis added.

Of course he's not. Brand and Davis both have film production companies in L.A., and Elton's wife is pregnant, meaning it would be more trouble than it's worth to uproot everything and go play somewhere else, even if it is for substantially more money. Remember, someone like Brand already has more money that he knows what to do with, so a few extra million isn't going to make that much of a difference. And now that Baron's signed on to come to L.A., Brand's worries about the team being competitive have just gone out the window. Elton Brand and Baron Davis will absolutely be teammates this season; there's no way that the discussion hasn't already taken place.
