Kevin Durant just needs to play basketball. Anyplace, anytime, against any level of competition. The NBA's reigning Rookie of the Year isn't content to simply rest up and prepare for next season in Earlier this summer, Durant made a guest appearance in an Orlando Summer League game, one where he easily scored 22 points in 27 minutes against the likes of Marcin Gorat. And last night in Washington, D.C., Durant was there to play in some glorified rec league, where he put on a performance for the ages against a player so great he has at least three nicknames: Gerald "Gee" Brown, P. Shiddy, and the P-Man. Here's an excerpt from the eyewitness account:
Kevin Durant immediately starts taking over the game hitting nothing but jump shots beyond the NBA three point range. Durant would get the ball and use a quick crossover step back move to gain separation and nail jumpers with such incredible ease. As the game began to heat up, Durant's competitive juices started flowing as he and P Shiddy both exchanged 3 point baskets for about two minutes straight in the first half. All of this was to the delight of the now standing Goodman crowd.I'm sure this was quite a show for the fans in attendance, but come on, is 60 points from an NBA star against a bunch of nobodys with obnoxious nicknames really that impressive? I mean, in these types of leagues, it's not like teams play defense or the traveling rules are actually enforced. You know what though? Maybe I'm just not getting it from Durant's perspective. I think I'll head down to the local middle school and drop 50 on some 4th graders.
In the second half, Durant started where he left off with a sweet mid range jumper for two but [the opposing team] Shooters with solid contributions all around ... opened up a 80-70 lead. That's when NBA rookie of the year Kevin Durant rose up and like Moses, led his Sweat Mob teammates to the promised land. Durant scored at will for the next 10 minutes of the half on a successive three pointers no less than 25 feet out to tie the score 100 with 2:47 left in the game.

As opposed to what league, exactly?

Oh come on, the Celtics won the championship by playing defense. So what if they're the only team that does so?
And the NBA has gotten *much* better about calling traveling. It's moving screens that they don't call anymore.

Didn't LeBron and CP3 (on the same team) lose to a bunch of unknowns not too long ago?

Come on Brett, do you really believe what you said??? When was the last time you ever saw LeBron or Kobe get called for traveling when they take their patented 8 steps to the basket?????? The NBA is horrible about calling traveling unless you have been in the league less than 3 years.

Methinks "P Shiddy" is spelled wrong. Should have double-T instead of double-D.
Mmmmmm.....double-Ds.

I'm sorry I lgot love for you Brett, but ask around before you make a knee jerk post.
Playing in Barry Farms is no walk in the park. Its the DC equivalent of Rucker Park. These guys may not be NBA ballers but many are either JUCO's who didn't have the grades, drugs, or random problems; ex College Players like Lawrence Moten and Victor page who have become neighborhood legends, and outright playground legends. Hard fouls aren't called and you better not whine.
Its intense. Its not the YMCA. or Just local guys from the neighborhood. I mean i recognize that even Shannon Anderson would get 20 out there, but its no walk in the park. Ask anyone in DC you dont go to Barry unless you absolutely have an invite, security or a neighborhood co-signer. SE DC is not Manhattan. or anywhere in NYC these days.
Kobe and them go to Rucker for fame, KD goes to prove he's still the best in DC/B-More metro . you gotta respect that.

It's funny how people always talk about things they don't understand. If it is so easy why isn't it being done all the time? 60 points is still 60 points and I seriously doubt if the author of this stupid article could score 60 against any organized team.
In fact I am willing to bet that there aren't a whole lot of pro ball players who could score sixty points in that league. Mr Jacobi should shut up and just watch!

Typical foolishness from someone who knows NOTHING about Urban Street Basketball
The Goodman League is where Kevin Durant 1st made his name playing amongst all of DC best players 4 years ago....and he came out again to show love for all the fans who are PROUD to see him make it out a rough area and become what he has become...a surefire NBA talent
and these games arent for sissies....before you clown these players, this is the SUMMER....Kevin didnt even have to play...he played out of the love he has for his hometown and the respect he has EARNED on that very same court.
Dont worry about the nicknames..they are NOT obnoxious....you dont attend so you dont KNOW where the names originate from.
I would LOVE to see you come down to "The Gates" and watch for yourself....but reading a blog like this...i wouldnt think this guy would have any clue
Kudos for KD again for showing love for SE DC and the Goodman League
I was in attendence BOTH days (because they played again yesterday)...it was a great show for the community...not for you wanna be journalists here to analyze ever move these players make....

Durant is having fun & working on his game & most players should. who he does it against bothers the wannabe's cause they can't against anyone.!

I guess journalists dont do research anymore........KD came to play and so did his opponent. For those who failed to realize, P Shiddy easily had 35-40 points. Like its already been said, playing inside "the gates" is no walk in the park. KD had the ball stolen from him at the end of the game and took a "L" along with it. Plus, Gilbert Arenas made quite a few appearances in the Goodman last summer....he never scored 60.

Wow....you are way outta line. The Goodman League is QUALITY basketball, period. Many pro's, college stars (present and former) HS All Americans, as well as local legends all participate "inside the gates". The particular game you speak of, but no nothing of, was nothing short of spectacular!! Kevin Durant, Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler are 3 NBA superstars that would tell you nothing but good things about the quality and competion at the Goodman League. Ask Mike Beasley about and see what he says....man, you were way off on this one. And for the record, PShitty is one of the best ballers I've ever seen, even w/out being a household name.
