Gilbert Arenas Is Not Going to Be Making With the Funny Any Longer

You know that Gilbert Arenas promised to stop blogging. But like any good addict, he couldn't lay off the turkey entirely. However, in appearing before the media this week to announce his brand spanking new $100+ million contract, Gil promised that he would ease back on the crazy business.

In fact, he didn't even flip a coin to figure out who he would be signing with. (Via El Bog)
He was stupefyingly bland. Intentionally. And he hinted that more blandness was to come. I, of course, do not believe him, but still, this was a dull press conference.

"Today was not a funny day," he said to me after the presser, when I complained.

The best part was this exchange, after Ivan Carter asked about the responsibility and pressure of being a $111 million man.

"Yeah, yeah, I know, I know, all the little things I do out there is gonna come to a halt," Arenas said. "You know, but I think I'm up for the task. I just need to cut out some of the foolishness I do."
Now, I would like to think that he's fooling himself with this no-funny-stuff talk. But then again, maybe Gilbert received some sort of epiphany that came with getting paid a nine figure sum and he realized that he needed to become more mature.

Sadly, I tend to think -- his basketball skills aside of course -- that his personality engenders him as someone that we the public somehow don't mind seeing get a huge contract like that. I mean sure, no one really needs 100 million dollars, but it's easier to take when it's a happy go lucky guy like Gil. Consider a hopeful tear not quite shed yet.
