What's the only thing better than an athlete talking about politics? That would be another athlete calling the first one on his political viewpoints. Which is what Baron Davis did on his most recent blog at Yardbarker (gracias, Stet), in response to Gilbert Arenas stating that Barack Obama's tax cuts on the rich were a little steep.(I know he said he's gonna raise the taxes on the top income bracket, Gil, but if he uses that money to improve our schools then you won't have to worry about some kids trying to sell pictures of your pool online cause they couldn't get a better job.) LOLObviously that's not an entirely serious dig at Gil -- but Baron's post is pretty Obama heavy, including links to various "Register to Vote" type places and a discussion of Barack's plan to invigorate the educational system.
And not to overstep my bounds at a sports blog here, but Gil does have a pretty valid point regarding income and political preference; besides it's not like McCain is raising taxes on anyone (his plan calls for cuts across the board while Barack intends to skyjack the wealthiest 1%'s annual taxes).
The point of all that being that it's kind of bizarre to see someone like Baron hold out and then go play for another team over the issue of many more millions of dollars ... when clearly he feels that the government should be in charge of that money anyway. Or maybe he just saw the tax cuts coming and wanted to make sure he had enough cushion.

Do you keep your Oboner for Obama to yourself, "shonday" (that name gives it away)? All I got to say is that whoever gets elected will have a stupid sounding voice as W-- McCain with that lisp, and Obama with that Gumbel $hit going on.

You mean an athlete is thinking about more than just his own narrow self-interest when selecting a presidential candidate? Gee, how awful. Obama's "skyjacking" of the top 1% will hardly outweigh the amount that they've profited over the last 8 years while the real income of 95% of Americans has dropped off in spite of the economy growing over that period (though not as much as it did in the previous 8 years). Glad to see B-Diddy cares more about his community and fellow Americans than banking that extra million.

I have to agree with Gil on this one. The top 1% pay 40% of all income taxes. The top 5% pay 60% of all income taxes. The top 10% pay 70% of all income taxes and the bottom 50% pay a whopping 3% of all income taxes.

Yet the majority of government revenues is spent on that same bottom 50%. And Obama thinks the "rich" aren't paying enough?
If you have ten people representing the different income levels, for every $100.00 in income tax, the one earning the highest income is paying $70.00 in tax. Meanwhile the five lowest people are each paying only 60 cents. And of that $100 in tax revenue, the majority is going for the benefit primarily of those 5 people who pay the least.
By the way, if a husband and wife are earning a combined $360,000 per year, they are in the top 1%.
One last point. No federal monies go toward paying teachers' salaries or building schools, so Baron Davis isn't going to see his money used on schools. Rather, it will be used to build bridges to nowhere and to study the sex life of fruit flies.

I don't think the Federal Income tax can be considered illegal. The 16th amendment exists...
