FanHouse's Tom Ziller argues his ranking of the top 50 players in the NBA.
It might not seem like it, but Dwyane Wade's had a roller coaster career already, in just five NBA seasons. Thrust into the Miami vice with fellow rookie Stan Van Gundy in 2003-04, Wade finished third in the greatest Rookie of the Year battle of modern history. In the next season, as a sophomore, he finished eighth in MVP voting. The next season brought an NBA championship. Two years later, Miami found itself in the tank with one of the worst records of the decade.
How long until that next upswing? If Wade has anything to do with it -- and returns from Beijing indicate he will -- it's not going to be too long.
One of the more amazing things about Wade's offensive game is its force. Everyone knows Wade can't shoot. He's a two-guard with a career three-point percentage below 26% ... and that's coming on almost no attempts -- imagine how low the clip would be if he had to shoot four a game. From the standard NBA guard shooting range, Wade is atrocious. He also happens to be vastly undersized by today's wing standards. His 6'4'' stature is exactly why Miami drafted him (and for a time played him) as a point guard.
Yet Wade scores whenever he wants, and almost no one can stop him.
He has a few ways of doing this, the most obvious a "drill, baby, drill" philosophy of driving to the hoop. It's like Iverson on meth, watching Wade try to take over a game. He's simply relentless; no matter how many defenders you throw in his path, no matter how many times you knock him down. (Get up eight, right?) It's like someone turns his ignition at the tip and puts a brick on the gas pedal. The Heat haven't been particularly fast teams, but on offense a near-maniacal drive to drive has kept defenders panting for years.
This isn't to say Wade's completely reckless, that he'll attack to the detriment of a balanced attack. He's an amazing drop-off passer, probably the best non-point-guard at finding the open teammate in traffic. (Tracy McGrady has long been the king in this category, with LeBron and Iverson near the top as well.) And while Wade's insistence of driving the ball is expected, it's not exactly predictable. Wade's thesaurus of stutters, stops, misdirections, slides, dekes, hops, angles, rotations ... it should be required reading for every prospective guard in the world. There's no pattern, no tells. That forces the opposition to lunge and hack, and that gets Wade to the line 10 times a game. That makes babies. That wins games.
So, will Miami bounce back? By all accounts, Wade is healthy. Shawn Marion might slip a bit, but he's still an extraordinary player. Udonis Haslem is as about as good as post defenders come. Michael Beasley, Mario Chalmers ... it's up to you.
NBA Top 50
No. 50, Andris Biedrins, Warriors

As a Heat fan, I approve of this ranking.
On pure talent and skills, I think Wade is a top 3 player in the league. The only other player who scores like Wade while at the same time getting assists like Wade is LeBron.
Still, I need to see him remain healthy for a full season before saying he's truly is a top 3 player. Durability should be a factor in these rankings.
Hopefully his knee holds up.

Do not agree with Dirk and Wade in the final 10;
There are players like Vince Carter that went
TWICED to the finals without that much help
ala lebron but NOT ala Dirk and still with
something left in the tank ala Shaq but
imagine KG with 11 years in Minnie and
didn't have to show for ? Discounting last year
with the Celtics ??? I guess is timing too.

No Joe Johnson + No Vince (I'm not a fan, but you can't deny he is Top 50 in any format) + No Rip (You have Biedrins on this list! Biedrins!) = No Street/Blog Cred
RIP Odom, Mr. Shuttlesworth, Chris Kaman (if you're gonna have Biedrins), and many more...

At the expense of rehashing ad nauseam previous similarly themed comments, this list has been absolutely, positively ATROCIOUS from #50 to now, and has been a testament to sin by commission as well as omission with nearly all of your choices.
And, as for your entry on Wade, for a guy who supposedly isn't a lot of things, he sure is high on your "list". Go figure. Here's to making your 5-day hiatus from posting this nonsense permanent.
Tom Ziller, it's up to you . . . .

Miami does not have the players around wade to go to the finals let alone make it into the playoffs. they have too many small forwards and forwards no point guards and no big men. Marion seems like a bust, no one wants him because he's asking for too much money and I don't think Wades body can hold up. I love watching this guy play, but it hurts every time I see him land on the floor after a hard drive to the bucket.
I just started a site and would love to get some feedback from you, whenever you have time. It's a new pick'em site where you'll be able to sell your picks and enter contests for a chance to win prizes all for free. Also you can get the best sports picks for free

You guys realize there are only so many spots in the top 10, right?
Before knocking Zillers list, make your own. You'll quickly realize that many of your favorite players will end up out of the top 10 and even in the 20s if you're really being honest with yourselves.

For the record, Wade can't shoot three pointers-- true. But, his midrange jumper is deadly.
Other than that, a decent analysis. His ranking is a bit too low-- at 100%, he's the clear #3 guy. But, other than the erroneous statement about him not being able to shoot from the outside at all-- not bad.

Be serious!!! I understand that Duncan and KG must go somewhere, but to place CP3 above Wade is outlandish. Wade took his team with Odom further than expected and would have taken the HEAT further the first year with Shaq if not for injury. This man is consistantly good. Plays hard every night and every year has had good numbers. Ask Dirk where he belongs on this list. To say that CP3 hasmade this jump in one year is crazy. Be for real you are basing this on one year. Don't get me wrong the kid is good but to rank him above Wade is rediculous. Now answer me one question. Who was the BEST player in the olympics? Nuff said!!!!

i think Wade has a pretty good jumper right now, one he worked hard on, whether he can hit a three or not is important to having a complete game but without he has a ring and tell me, how many guys with great three point rage never got a ring, but to put him 6th in his 5th year thats being generous lets wait three more before we start crowning cats.

Saying Wade can't shoot is inaccurate. He's not very good beyond the 3pt line, but when healthy, off the dribble he's one of the best mid-range shooters in the game.

Wade average about 25pts. a game when healthy( without shooting 3's). So imagine if he did hit 3's decent, Wade could easliy average 30pts a game or more.
