We're barely three games into the pre-season, and I'm already tired of hearing the name Bill Walker. It's not that I don't appreciate the youngster's talents, because I do: he's clearly got some skills or he wouldn't be on the court for the World Champs, even in these exhibitions. What needs to stop though is the unnecessary taunting of legitimate NBA All-Stars after making plays that might have been spectacular at Kansas State, but are simply average at the NBA level.
Walker gave LeBron James an unnecessary shove after a mediocre dunk the other day, then took exception to getting knocked down by Tracy McGrady after he had delivered a hard foul to T-Mac on the other end first. Video, via BDL.
Apparently things stayed heated throughout the game, with Yao getting into it with Walker later and Paul Pierce and Ron Artest getting down as well.
Dude, it's pre-season, and you're a rookie. Stop starting brawls in the first quarter and show a little respect, my man. Unless of course, being an unlikeable front-runner with an imaginary chip on your shoulder is a pre-requisite for making the team. In which case, I completely understand ... especially when that team is the Celtics.

Bill's just trying to make the team. Too bad he didn't play with that much energy at K-State.

Boston's gain is the rest of the league's loss. Howabout letting the Celtic coaches decide if his intensity level is worthy of a roster spot. You guys slay me. If this kid was dunkin for your teams you all would be high fiving and cheering him on. But nnoooooooooo he got snagged by the CHAMPS. I smell sour grapes.

agree 100%......Bill just doesn't know how to blend his aggression into game play. Bruce Brown, Ron Artest, even Sam Cassell for that matter all throw cheap shots at times. They just know how to do it less obviously. In time, Walker will too. At least two or three players from every NBA team play this physical style. not a big deal. He is a player!

Did you watch the game? Did you see what Artest was doing to Pierce BEFORE those plays? It's great that someone was fighting back. It is also bizarre to criticize what Walker did when checked by McGrady. Of course he is going to come back the way he did. Any NBA player who gets tackled will do that. It isn't like he took a swing.

Billy Walker is doing a good job replacing some of Posey's toughness. Keep it up Billy and don't ever back down from soft players like McGrady. check http://www.betsportsweb.com/

Same old anti-Boston slant. The kid is apparently a real talent with all kinds of likeable traits if your a Celtics fan. If you're not, and you take a simplistic view of aggressiveness play you'll whine like the AOL commentary and several posters here.
But the Celtics got him after every team overlooked him and that will be a motivating chip for him to go along with his terrific talent. It may cost him some in foul trouble as a rookie, but if he stays healthy, he'll be getting plenty of NBA media attention. He'll be getting the attention of all the teams that passed on him, as well, as he becomes a productive Celtic poster-boy for the list of low in the draft finds that the Celtics have become known for in their resurgence under Ainge.

I loooove Edward's double standard here!!! Tracy McGrady clearly SHOVES Walker and send him flying - something which ANY NBA player in the league would react to like Walker did. Then he bemoans the "shove" of Bron-Bron, the Golden Boy? Shove? On that "mediocre" play by Walker, he swooped in over James for a great put-back dunk and they bumped running back up the court. Did LeBron call you up to plead his case for him?
Edwards, it is amazing that you actually get compensated for "writing" drivel like this. Respect your elders, go read a real sports writer like Ralph Wiley and start getting a clue.
