NBA FanHouse walks through the Valley of the Most Likely; we shall fear no topic.Shawn Marion looks like a man that won't last the entire season at his current destination. Let's look at some of the reasons why:
1) Marion is in the last year of his deal, and has incentive force a trade to a team that wants to sign him long term.
2) Miami already has Riley favorite Udonis Haslem and number two overall pick Michael Beasley to fill Marion's role at the four.
3) Miami's in desperate need of a starter level point guard and center.
4) Tons of teams could use a do everything player of Marion's caliber. Seems like the perfect storm for a Marion trade. But where could he go?
Memphis might be a perfect place for Marion. According to fellow Hauser Matt Moore, Marion spent his high school years in Tennesee. That doesn't mean he wants to go back there, but at least it's been home for him before. Memphis also plays an uptempo style of ball that Marion would fit perfectly in. But I'm not sure if Memphis has the combination of talent and expiring deals to satisfy Miami in such a deal.
I'm sure Mike D'Antoni would love to have his workhorse back with him in New York. But unless Marion's willing to re-sign for a lot less money during the off-seson, that that deal would likely only be short term, as New York is all about shedding cap space for the class of 2010.
Portland has young and talented players and the expiring contracts that Miami likely covets. Portland is also in need of a veteran that's been through tough playoff battles before. But with LaMarcus Aldridge in Portland, Marion would have to go back to playing the three. Marion's pretty versatile, so that might not be that big of a deal.
With the arrival of Derrick Rose, Chicago is likely no longer in need of former starter Kirk Hinrich. Hinrich had a horrible 2008 season, but could be the solution for Miami at the point. Marion would also thrive next to Derrick Rose. The only problem is that taking on Hinrich (and whoever else they have to take on from the Bulls to match salaries) would take away Miami's cap flexibility.
Anyhow, odds are that the Matrix will be in a new uniform by the February trade deadline. At this point, it's just figuring out the destination.
Think you have a great Marion trade proposal? Well, fire away in the comments section.

I think the best move is Marion for Nocioni and Gooden. If the Bulls are serious about getting Randolph you could easily make it a 3 way trade.
Miami needs a 3 who can shoot and a big who can defend the post. This gives them both of those things. I know folks aren't big Marcus Banks fans, but honestly all he has to do is bring the ball up the court, defend, and shoot the open 3. He can do all of those things.
Banks, Wade, Nocioni, Haslem/Beasley, Gooden can make the playoffs. And if Miami doesn't like Gooden his contract expires and they can try again. All they need is a center who can defend, and they owuld have the cap flexibility to find that this summer.

If we make a trade, it will almost certainly be for someone who's contract expires by 2010.
In my opinion, Riley will only trade for a player who's contract exceeds that threshold if it's an all-star or borderline all star player. I don't think you'll get that kind of player for Marion.
One name to watch for is Brad Miller. His contract expires in 2010 and he'd fill Miami's center position for a couple years.
I think Miami's chances of trading Marion are smaller than you'd think. We won't make a trade just for the sake of making a trade. If letting him expire and getting the cap space is what's best, then that's what Riley will do.

Kirk is nothing more than a good backup, barely better than Luke Ridnour

Miami has a decent PG in Quinn, and great prospects in Mario Chalmers and Shaun Livingston. They can get by at PG... the real problem is the lack of a decent center. Blount is soft, Maglooire is already injured and out for several months, Alonzo won't be back until after Dec (if he returns at all), and Joel Anthony is a backup player at best.

Also Marion is a SF who was forced to play PF over the years. He has stated over and over that he prefers to play his natural position, SF. If he's traded, it's not because we already have two great PFs (Haslem and Beasley), it will be because he didn't fit into the team and the Heat aren't going to be interested in a new contract at his desired price when he becomes a free agent.

I have 2 really good trade ideas in mind. The first one is i think the Hornets should try to trade Peja, Mike James, and Peterson plus a pick or 2 if needed to Miami for Marion, Blount, and Cook. This would take care of the Hornets lack of depth in the frontcourt, give them an atheltic backup 2, and give them a better defender and do everything athletic guy in Marion (already a great defensive team but Peja is the weak link). All the salaries work.
The other trade is Miami could try to trade Marion, Blount, and Banks to the Knicks for Marbury, Q. Richardson, and either E. Curry or J. Crawford. This would give the Heat a PG with experience (and i think he would try because of the opprotunity of playing with a player like Wade) with Marbury and either a C presence with Curry or another scorer who could handle the ball some in Crawford. It helps the Knicks because it puts Marion back into D'Antoni's hands, gives them a quality backup PG behind Duhon, gets rid of Marbury, and will help them with cap room because Marion's 18 Mill comes off the books after this year and Blounts 9 Mill comes off the following summer. One of these trades should happen because they make to much sense for both teams not to happen.....

I can understand why the matrix is frustrated. When he was in Phoenix (before Amare and Nash) he was the man scoring 20 and 10 easily [although the team wasn't winning much (they had steph on the team) of their games]. Marion was suppose to be the franchise player and then they brought in Amare and then he had to play power forward at 6 7' then they switched him back to small forward ( I remember him guarding a center once). Then they bring in Nash and all of a sudden he now is a third option. Then they start giving credit and saying how Nash has helped Marion's game flourish. If you look at Marion's stats he has always averaged 20 plus points a game plus he plays defense ( can guard the 1 - 5 spot). Which is a lot that can be said about Amare who everyone is waiting to play some D at 7 feet tall. Then there were the trade rumors years ago (not the ones for Deng or the other young players) for Tim Thomas ( who Phoenix got anyway). You would feel disrepected and unappreciated too. I don't think he will have one negative thing to say about Miami, although playing for Pat the rat ( that's right I said it) would give you ammonition to talk.
