Most Likely to Gain a Ton of Bandwagon Fans: The Portland Trail Blazers

NBA FanHouse walks through the Valley of the Most Likely; we shall fear no topic.

I have to admit, the Portland Trail Blazers have been looking pretty good this preseason. I can't say that I am surprised. I mean, their roster is just stacked.

With Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Greg Oden as their core, the Blazers have a squad that many feel will eventually compete for championships for years to come.

The Blazers rise reminds me a lot of the rise of the Sacramento Kings from earlier in the decade. With a young and entertaining squad, the Kings became the cool team to get behind. I swear, almost every young cat I met in college that wasn't from L.A. was a Kings fan. Many of them claimed to be lifelong Kings fans, but I somehow highly doubt that. It's funny, because these days I find it very difficult to locate those same Kings lifers. I wonder why.

Anyhow, similar to the Kings squads from earlier in the decade, many expect the Blazers' main rival to be the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers are not only one of the most popular teams in the history of sports, but also one of the most hated. The Lakers are just so establishment, while the Blazers are young rebels. It's waaaay cooler to become a fan of the franchise that is trying to make a name for itself.

That's why I expect a ton of self-proclaimed lifelong Blazers fans to come out of the woodwork this season. It's okay to jump on the Blazers bandwagon, but don't try to act like you've always been there. Seriously, if you can't name eight guys from the 1991 Blazers, you're not a lifelong Blazers fan.

So if you're thinking of jumping on the Blazer bandwagon, I suggest you do it soon, because it's bound to fill up by the end of the first month of the season.
