During Saturday night's overtime game between the Celtics and the Bucks, Kevin Garnett and Andrew Bogut had themselves a little dust-up. Bogut caught KG in the face with a (somewhat Kobe-esque) follow through, and Garnett responded with an open-handed smack to Bogut's face. Here's a look at the incident, which at the time resulted in a technical foul for both players.
The league is said to be looking at taking further disciplinary action, and frankly, I don't see how they can't. Clearly, this not simply another case of "KG being KG," where the league can choose to ignore his actions because he's an "emotional" player. Please. The man plainly and intentionally swung at Bogut in retaliation for getting hit on Bogut's follow through.
While Bogut's contact was incidental, I don't think even the most rabid of Celtics fans would say the same for KG's slap. If Steve Nash can get a game suspension for simply walking over to break up a fight, Garnett should get at least that much for so obviously trying to start one.
UPDATE: The league has weighed in, and Kevin Garnett has indeed been suspended for one game. The suspension will be served tomorrow night when the Celtics host the Knicks.

Keep dreaming. The NBA won't suspend KG unless he actually punches a guy.
He's a bully and knows he can get away with this stuff. No way the league kills this cash cow.

Brett Edwards always the most umbiased 'writer' here (note the heavy sarcasm) if you think this was worthy of suspension you need a clue. The nba=boring now. Players get into fights and this was not suspension worthy. If you think it is, how sad. NBA front office=joke. If KG was on your team I bet none of you would be complaining and whining.

I'm so tired of hearing how the NBA used to be. The league is different now and contact like this is suspension worthy. I agree that it's ridiculous, but so is Stern. Like Brett said, if Nash got suspended for "escalating the situation" then KG slapping a guy in the face deserves one as well.

I won't debate you that the NBA front office is making the game soft, but the rules still apply to everyone. Since last year KG has been exempt from this to the point of it being ridiculous. Anyone else would have gotten at least a tech and probably a suspension for the sh*t he pulled on Calderon a few weeks ago. This one was too blatant to ignore and hopefully a step in the right direction,

I guess no one here knows basketball. Thats what the game is all about. I don't think he should be suspended and the only reason Bogut got thrown out is because it was his 2nd TF in the game. KG is the most intense player in the game he is not a bully you cant bully a grown man. All he wants is to WIN don't be mad because your A loser!!!!!!!

Geez, give Brett a break. I may be mistaken, but I thought this was a freaking blog (?), where somewhat bias opinions are somewhat expected/understandable. No, KG's not a "thug," persay, but there are times when he does things, like this w/ Bogut and that bs he pulled w/ Calderon that should be brought attention to by the refs and punished accordingly. Yeah, he's the NBA's posterchild for intensity/passion, but he needs to calm down w/ the childish antics...

To all you weighing in on this i think you all have valid points. The thing that i think about with KG pulling these "passion" stunts is, I think the league should escalate his warnings-penalties every time he does it. And since they have let it slide in the past with warning it might have been the appropriate time to put a stop to it and let him know they are for real about giving the right image to kids growing up watching their heros and then reacting it in their junior high/high school/city leagues. Their is a difference between playing with emotion and channeling that emotion into your game or channeling it at an opposing player. It takes a more mature player to do the the former and maybe KG hasnt yet reached that (even though he is getting up there in NBA years). I really thought he would come back this year after winning a championship and act like a true champ and take his anger and use it to fuel his drive to WIN. There is a difference between wanting to win and getting even with someone on the court because THEY are playing dirty. Dont degrade yourself to their level, turn the other cheek and play harder. What do you have to prove to the guy? Your the champion right now....
P.S. To the guy wanting KG to get popped. Forget Ron hitting him, how about a Jermaine O'Neal crow-hop.HA! He laid out that one dude in the brawl....

I do think KG is a good player, but he just has a serious problem with WHITE guys that hit him. Didn't he punch Wally Szczerbiak and Rick Rickert for no reason (during PICK-UP games) while playing for Minnesota? Because Garnett is who he is, the league won't take drastic action.
I'm just waiting for the day for somone to intentionally nail him in the face... I don't think Z has been following basketball too long. Garnett has always had this attitude. Remember he wanted over $100 million for his contract with MN and raised a stink about it? He really acts like a baby sometimes... you never saw other great power forwards (Duncan, Barkley, Malone) act that way (unless they were pushed to the limit).
Classiest? Please. Show me John Stockton and Hakeem. KG is not even in the same league as those guys. Hell, I can even make the point his level of play is not worth of the HOF because he's playing an era where there is no defense.

Im a boston fan and i agree in the suspension in TODAYS rules. I also agree that its way too soft. But lets not pretend its only KG who gets off. Superstars always get it easy, and the "average" players (not skill wise, but superstar vs non superstar wise), get shafted.
Welcome to the NBA in the 21st century.
Yay.

Right on mAURICE, you get hit in the face twice, you hit back and Bogut clearly flopped on that hit, it wasn't even that hard, you could clearly see in the replay, Bogut gets hit in the face, a few seconds later he reacts...hehe...what a flop

I watched the game and have seen the replay of what happened and can only say that what KG did was a normal reaction to being hit in the face. A technical foul was all that was necessary in this situation. Why blow it out of proportion just because he isn`t on your "favorites" list! He is a normal human being and will strike back after being hit.
