The other sneaker has fallen: Ramona Shelbourne of the Los Angeles Daily News reports that Zach Randolph is a Los Angeles Clipper. Mardy Collins will join Z-Bo in Southern California. Tim Thomas and Cuttino Mobley, two fellows who have contracts which expire in 2010, will become Knickerbockers. In case you're wondering: as of today, Donnie Walsh has roughly $33 million of cap space to work with in the Summer of 2010, when the entire league (small exaggeration) is up for unrestricted free agency. Only Eddy Curry, Wilson Chandler, Jared Jeffries and Danilo Gallinari are under contract for the 2010-11 season. A max player in with 7-8 years of NBA experience (that covers LeBron, Wade, Bosh and Amare) will earn a salary at 30% of the salary cap -- expected to come out to a $20 million starting salary. Walsh can add one of those plus have about $13 million to tinker around the edges with, so to speak. (Joe Johnson, anyone?) Today is a great day to be a Knicks fan. (Know any who survived last season?)
Meanwhile in L.A., the Clippers now have three big men earning a total of $35 million this year. You assume the Clips won't flip Z-Bo. Chris Kaman's name has been all over the fishwrap lately -- does Mike Dunleavy have a deal in place to get a swingman back? Marcus Camby could also be bait; he has been completely anonymous on the court for the Clips. I just don't see L.A. keeping all these mammoths around for long, not with a massive, gaping hole at the two-guard. (Collins -- best known as the guy Isiah Thomas anointed the starter over Stephon Marbury one fateful road trip last winter-- and Ricky Davis are the fellows at that position with two-guard of the future Eric Gordon, who Clips fans consider unfit for a starter role at this time.)

And we thought Isaiah was bad. Might as well convert the Garden into a mall. Basketball is dead in Manhattan. And stick Dolan's bloated head into the toilet and flush !
I like this move, the Knicks finally start to clean Isiah's dirt. Total cleansing. I don't know if they'll get LeBron or Wade in 2010 (Bosh is going to the Kings :P ) but this is a good rebuilding move for sure. They needed it.
It's funny how their whole policy shifted direction after the first night at the Garden, when a few fans were shouting "We want Steph"....just goes to show you how much thought these dingbats put into their decisions.
Harvey- you are my hero! You hit the nail on the head!
This seems like a good move, but Steph needs to play. I see the move and Steph possibly being a better team. Two years to get better what about now?
The sad part about this "strategy" is that by gutting the team, the Knicks will probably end up with lottery picks in the next two years. Teams that intentionally make trades like this and tank the season should only receive the 30th pick in the draft.
Im a Hornets fan so it makes no matter to me but this is lookin like whats about to play out - Lebron and the Cavs just cant do it this year ; Wally constantly misses wide open threes while letting his man score 80% of the time- Cavs make a desperate trade either during the offseason or the beginning of the year to try to get a better team because the pressure is rising in Cleveland with 4 straight trips to the Conference Finals or further with no rings to show ; meanwhile Donnie has traded Curry for a role player with a low salary and a low draft pick and during the offeason is trying to explain to David and Nate his master plan of signing them for less but for only 2 years with a 3 year player option so they can get out if they want to so that they can have their talents but still have room to make a pitch to Bosh and Lebron - Cleveland falls to either Lakers or Hornets in the Finals and coach Brown is on the hot seat the same offseason as Lebron is a free agent... talk about a mess. Lebron is saying all the right things about wanting to stay in Cleveland but has the pieces Walsch has put into place start to slide into motion Lebron cant help but notice the reailty of being on the same team as Bosh no matter where is it and then also cant get over its in New York of all places (which would just be a bonus at that point). Flashes of Olympic practices and games go through his head and he remembers streches where Bosh and himself were the only 2 able to do anything and had to
they had to carry the team. - The finally comes where teams can talk to free agents. Donnie flies Bosh into New York and pulls out all the stops for him. But when they finally sit in an office one-on-one he gets serious and looks at Bosh and says "Look we both know you and Lebron wanna play together, its been an "unconfirmed" rumor since the Olympics. Well i have guarenteed David Lee and Nate Robinson will be here and i am talking to Ray Allen to signing for a verterans min. and if your on board i have already confirmed Lebron is ready to go! I can see it now Chris... best duo ever.. better then Kobe and Shaq... they actually both get along.... multiple championships.....bl owout victories.... oh and by the way D'Antoni just signed a 4 year extension. *They both Smile* ... 12 hours later Lebrons cell's text song starts playing... He smiles and rides into the sunset ready to pack and go studio apartment shopping... first he's gotta catch a Giant game with A-Rod though.. checks his back floor board "Ok there it is" he says has he puts his Yankees cap on.....
The Clippers are toxic waste. Why are they still in Los Angeles? Can the whole team be traded to New York for an NFL franchise? They fired the organ grinder (Elgin Baylor) but kept the monkey (Mike Dunleavy). Year after year, the Clippers are the most mismanaged team sports franchise in North America. At least an NBA fan in Southern California has some consolation to Clipper mediocrity. The Lakers are winners!
