Technically speaking, the Grizzlies aren't the youngest team in the league -- Golden State and Portland just barely edged them out. But in terms of players who actually play the most minutes, there's no doubt that the Grizzlies lead the way: they start three rookies (O.J. Mayo, Marc Gasol and Darrel Arthur), a second-year point guard (Mike Conley) and a third-year small forward (Rudy Gay) who's the old man of the group at 23 years old.
With that much inexperience, it's not a surprise the team is just 4-13 ... but at least one player thinks they probably could be better. When asked if he thought the Grizzlies were a well-coached team, Gay gave one of the worst endorsements of a coach I've ever seen.
From the Commercial Appeal:
"I think, um ... " said Rudy Gay.For what it's worth, Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace gave a more reassuring vote of confidence to Marc Iavaroni later in the article, saying he wanted to give the team "time to unfold." Given what Iavaroni has had to work with, that's the only fair thing you can do. Yes, Mayo looks like a superstar in the making, and sure, Gay could make his first All-Star team as soon as this year, but the rest of this roster is as raw as sushi. You can't coach experience, you can only wait it out.
He considered his words.
"I think, um ... " Gay said again.
A stumper, it must have been.
"For us to really be good, we have to buy into it," Gay, the team's star forward, said, finally.
OK, then. Are y'all buying into it?
"I think when we came in this year we bought into it," he said. "Sometimes we've run into teams who exploit what we're doing."

Obviously it's interesting to hear the perspective from a player, but I really don't know how much stock you can put into it coming from a third-year player like Gay.
As you said, the team is incredibly inexperienced, and in that sense it's almost as if you can't even trust him to know what's best for the team. It would be like asking a teenager about their parents, even though they may be the oldest of their siblings, that doesn't mean they necessarily know what they're talking about.
