After last night's beat down at the hands of the recently surging Mavericks, the Suns have lost four straight -- something they haven't done since November of 2006. The locker room mood has been less than positive, and while head coach Terry Porter has asserted himself recently, the team came out with a lack of fire that was apparent to everyone, including the team's general manager, Steve Kerr.Kerr was in attendance for last night's blood bath, and this post-game comment he gave to the East Valley Tribune might be a clue that this (lack of) aggression will not stand, man:
"What's most disappointing is the lack of passion, commitment and energy. That's what I'm looking for," Kerr said. "I want to see five guys who want to play, want to compete. For whatever reason, we've lost that in the last few games ... and the first half in this game was the worst it has been. We weren't competing."That sounds to me like some changes might be on the way. Jerry Brown of the Tribune suggests they might come in the starting lineup or on the roster, but Kerr has tinkered with the roster enough (see:Shaq). Might he be so bold as to make a change at the coaching level, just 20 games into the season?
I would in no way be a proponent of such a move, but it's something worth discussing. The Raptors recently fired Sam Mitchell after his team didn't compete during a 30-something-point-loss to the Nuggets. Granted, there were style issues there too; Colangelo wanted to run, while Smitch wanted to play smashmouth. Porter's style of defense-first was in line with Kerr's philosophy to start the season, but since then, the focus has been on trying to push the tempo while at the same time cutting down on the turnovers.
Again, it would be fairly insane to fire Porter just 20 games in. The fact is, he's been without his full compliment of players for more of the season than he's had his full squad together. Players have missed time for a variety of reasons, including injuries, suspensions, personal issues, the birth of their children, or just plain needing to rest. It's not all on him at this point that the team hasn't been able to gel, when they honestly haven't spent enough time on the court to be able to do so.
Once Porter has the full group together and they can get accustomed to playing with some familiar lineups, I think they'll find a way to turn things around; there's just too much talent there not to. Whether or not Steve Kerr will have the patience to wait for that to happen before making some big changes however, remains to be seen.

The Suns are a team with absolutely no rudder. Steve Kerr was a good announcer and is a very poor General Manager.
Why would anyone in their right mind want an over the hill Shaq
Diesel who sits on the pines and gets the big bucko's? Mike
"Seven Second" D'Antoni was an alright coach, the present braintrust looks as if they could not run a high school program.
The Suns are painful to watch and show no ambition and less
chemistry than any team (except last years Knicks and Heat)
I have seen in recent memory.
I think it is time for someone to finally hire Mark Jackson as the skipper. Give Terry Porter a vacation before the season is completely lost.

When does Steve Kerr get fired for his lack of performance as well? This so -called Shaq experiment has failed greatly. Why would you even get a player who can't play back-to-back games in the first place? Why even pay the player for taking off? I have never been a fan of Porter's either, but why bring him in the first place? I think Kerr should be FIRED and held accountable for his horrendous trades and chances. He should go back to what he does best "Announcing"
I'm glad I gave up my Suns tickets last season. This is the worst it has been for the Suns in years and it will only get worse.

anyone that saw even two minutes of that game last night in Dallas could tell that the Suns have quit on Porter. They look like a bunch that just wants him to go away.

If the Suns are commited to Porter's style of basketball then their needs to be a change in personnel.
I would first package Barbosa, Diaw and Bell to the Knicks. D'Antoni loves all three of these players. I would ask in return a point guard, maybe even Marbury if the Knicks are willing to pay half of his salary. Also include Wilson Chandler a young power forward, and third player like Malik Rose.
If the team at the Allstar break is not going to make the playoffs, I would deal Stoudemaire. Possibly to the Thunder for a package and draft picks. One player I would want back in Green, one of their power forwards Wilcox or Collison, and someone like Wilkins for the third piece of the trade.
These changes would give them a young team and in 2010 they could go after one of the top free agents.

Its very simple. And someone finally pointed it out on Wednesday night. Like the Lakers under Magic's showtime. "Magic ran, Kareem walked." All the Suns have to do is run the fastbreak relentlessly and if there isn't anything there wait for Shaq and look to pound it inside. Shaq has actually looked very good this year so he still has something left but they can run first and always then slow down if there isn't an advantage. Nash needs to run so let him.

The Suns will not win with Porters style, The D is better and semi good, but you have to score and they don't, run the ball and get back and play D, I agree, let Shaq walk, it worked for Magic and the Lakers, let it work here, I would like to see Dan run the team, Porter sucks

anyone who has a problem with shaq hasn't been paying attention to what the Suns did at the end of last season with shaq and how shaq has been playing so far this season. after getting shaq last year the suns fast break points went up not down. their rebounding went up. their overall scoring went up. Shaq contributed an average of 15 pts 10 rebounds a night and was a presence inside. That is all you can ask from a center. This season he has done the same. Plus two 25-30 pt games. Shaq is not the problem. Give up and get on to the turnover problem. Shaq is averaging less than 2 turnovers a game. Our so called ball handlers are averaging almost 10 a game. Less turnovers mean more offensive possessions. If you pay attention to stats and not band-wagoners you will know that SHAQ is not the problem. So to all you nay-sayers and doubters of the Shaq-nation "tell me how my @%% tastes."
