ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan reports that Celtics reserve Glen Davis suffered a concussion and whiplash in a Sunday afternoon car accident. Big Baby had been traveling from home to TD Banknorth for his team's game against the Knicks.
Davis was expected to remain hospitalized overnight following the accident on the Massachusetts Turnpike, according to team spokesman Jeff Twiss. No further details of the accident were immediately available, although snow fell throughout the day Sunday, making for hazardous driving conditions.
Overnight hospitalization means that this is serious. Davis has kept his job as Boston's second big man off the bench, even after his notorious in-game shouting fit with Kevin Garnett against Portland earlier this month. With no offense intended, Davis has been the least effective Boston rotation player this season: Leon Powe is the star frontcourt reserve, and Tony Allen has drawn rave reviews as the new James Posey. Still, bidding for their 18th straight win tonight and holding onto only Brian Scalabrine and Patrick O'Bryant behind Davis, the Celtics will miss him.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Big Baby. Of course, if he needs a new car ... who has Big Baby in the Secret Santa pool?
