That's Kendrick Perkins headhunting Jason Maxiell, getting himself booted during the fourth quarter of a tight road game against a rival. Smart move, Holmes. More ridiculous than this unnecessary foul were the arguments from Perk's teammates that the Big 'Drick shouldn't have been ejected.
Paul Pierce told the Boston Globe that this kind of foul isn't out of the ordinary. Right.
"That sparked our ball club, when we saw Perk leaving the game," captain Paul Pierce said. "That's part of a physical game; he never had any intention of hurting the guy. You see that every other day in the NBA."That's a lie. Players do not rope other player around the neck and throw them to the ground every other day. And Maxiell isn't exactly a dainty waif; the muscular Perk had to use more than casual effort to nearly turn Max upside down. This is not your usual hard foul.
Andrew Bynum's foul on Gerald Wallace -- the one that ended with Crash spending a night in the hospital with a partially collapsed lung -- didn't get an ejection or suspension because of perceived intent. The thinking seemed to be that because Bynum was more reckless than dirty, he shouldn't be punished further than the flagrant-2 fine and the sad face on his personnel file.
Maxiell didn't get injured here, but it's (obviously) just as bad (if not worse). The league needs to put Perk on his ass for a game. Bynum's body check doesn't improve the game; it isn't necessary to keep basketball "a man's sport." But I can understand the arguments that the (extremely regrettable) end result made Bynum's foul look worse than it was. But Perk has no excuse. These dirty antics shouldn't be a part of the game.

What do you expect form dirty player form the Celtic or the who?, a want to be bad boy, and Paul Pierce should be suspended too for defending his dirty player like Perkin. The league should suspend Perkin at least 5 games just to teach the Keltic a lesson. He has been doing it through out the season. Bone head. The Keltic should never consider a World Champion when you have bone like Perkin and Paul Pierce.

lmao I wouldn't go as far as deserthspd....you don't suspend players for defending teammates and at the same time you don't suspend a player 5 games for a dirty foul...of course Perkins should get suspended, but not for 5 games. Suspend him 1 game and give him a huge fine..thats it.

think of it this way... if maxiel had not had his hands under him, he could have walked away with a concussion, broken nose, broken front teeth... it could have been way worse. just like when jason kidd flipped pargo. worse case scenario, head injuries like no tomorrow

Nora, your logic is extremely flawed. One person accidentally trips someone and breaks his neck. Another person deliberately trips someone and gives him a scratch. What is morally worse, and what should be punished?
I'm sick of people treating the result to justify the intent. Yeah, Bynum's foul was hard and Wallace was injured, but it's clear from both the video evidence and the post-game reaction that it wasn't intentional. Whereas Perkins' foul strongly points to the fact that he knew what he was doing.
Suspension isn't based on the magnitude of the injury. It's based on malicious intent. Both the referees and the league decided Bynum's foul didn't warrant a suspension, but I'd be surprised if Perkins doesn't get slapped with a game of two because of this one.
