The first call there on Granger was absolutely horrible. There's no way an official should make that call in that situation, period. Both players were going for the ball, Granger's body made contact with LeBron's, and Granger tipped the ball away. That should have been a no-call, and it should have been game over in favor of the Pacers.
However ...
If you're going to call the first play a foul, then the second one where the Pacers brilliantly ran the exact same play deserves to be called a foul as well. Both were bad calls, but hey, at least this officiating crew was consistent. The first call was bad, but the second call was the correct one in the context of the situation.
Incredibly, Cavaliers' head coach Mike Brown didn't see it that way. Somehow, he thought that his team was the one that got screwed, even though they were the beneficiaries of the bad officiating less than half a second before the final call was made, and he ripped the referees after the game.
"That last call, on the run, is the worst call that I have ever been a part of," Brown said. "I cannot imagine another worse call than that. It was an awful call and for him to take away a basketball game from a team with .4 seconds on the clock is irresponsible."Mike Brown is officially insane. Are you kidding me? The Cavs got bailed out by the officials on the exact same play that allowed LeBron to tie the game on the previous possession. How in the world could Brown go off like that about the game's final possession, considering it went his team's way on an identical play just 0.4 seconds before the one he's so hell bent on criticizing?
Look, I get that one-point losses on the road to an inferior team are frustrating. But blaming an officiating crew that tried to hand your team the game on a similar play the possession before is myopic at best, and just plain ignorant at worst.
If the Cavaliers can't beat the Pacers on a night when LeBron goes for 47 points and the refs give them a gift of a call to allow them to tie it with under a second left on the clock, then honestly, they don't deserve to win the game. And no amount of post-game posturing by their head coach is going to change that.

Comments (Page 1 of 1)
well said, well said.
I'm tired of the Cavs organization. All they do is whining and whining and whining and pulling the disrespect card any chance they get (disrespect?!?!?! about what?) It's getting ridiculous. Cavs fans (most of them) really think there's a league-wide conspiracy to keep the Cavs from winning a title and think that's a way to convince LeBron to leave Cleveland for New York. And they thought that the exclusion of Mo Williams from the all-star game was another conspiracy against their team (and they got proved wrong since Williams got invited today) I am wondering if Cavs fans really believe what they say cuz there's no way that a normal person would think that. They can't even look at things objectivily anymore. I wonder if they even know anything about basketball cuz most of them seem completely clueless. I can already see those Cavs fans coming up with some idiotic conspiracy theory about the Pacers/Cavs game. No offense Cleveland, but until last week I thought you were a classy organization. You proved me wrong.
PS: Stern should suspend Brown or, at the very least, fine him. (Oh wait, this would give Cavs fans one more reason to think there's a league-wide conspiracy against their team  )...the stupidity of conspiracy theorists never cease to amaze me. Really.
I agree with both comments. Mike Brown I'm sure will be fined. If you analyze the plays LeBron actually committed a foul on both, Granger had position and Bron tried to go over his back. Mike Brown whines worse than LeBron but I guess he has to support his meal ticket. I respect the skills Lebron demonstrates nightly but he losing credibility because of his constant whining and arm waving. He drives to the hoop runs over people then expects not to get touched, 6'8" 260lb give me a break at least fall down,
when Kobe hangs 47 on someone, the lakers win. wassup lebron?
lebron's "crab walk" is just a plain ol' walk. call that mike brown..
if this doesnt prove to the cavs that they need to make a move at the deadline, i dont know what will.
lebrons supporting cast was AWFUL
this is all part of the Cavs organization wide strategy for post season.... complain often and loudly about how the "Cavs and Cleveland" are being disrespected by the league and the public at large, in fact, the world, and come playoff time it might translate into a little "underdog" favoritism unconsciously from the refs... I hope the refs don't fall for it...the notion of entitlement coming out of Cleveland is strong these days, and as it was asserted in the article...If the vastly superior Cavs (and their leader the King along with court jester Mo) can't take the game more decisively than by 1 point from the Pacers, THEN THEY DESERVE TO LOSE A CLOSE GAME ON SOMETHING AS STUPID AS A PAIR OF FOULS, THE LAST OF WHICH DOESN'T GO IN THEIR FAVOR...
anyone that says cleveland are whiners for the mo williams stub is a complete clueless nba follower and should shut up for business they know nothing about. Of all the top five teams every team but cleveland had two all stars, mo only got invited after TWO "all stars" got injured, he was robbed twice. Go ahead and watch or read any espn article and they will say the same thing. So, shut the hell up on knowledge you know nothing about. Oh, and suspend a coach for disagreeing about the refs? Lol, that would be one coach a day. Some people should just not talk on information they nothing about.
Yeah Mo Williams probably deserves it. Nobody is arguing that. But what's pathetic is the way Cleveland has whined about it. There have been worse snubs before (even just this year). Suck it up and prove it on the court, don't bitch and moan about it.
So now what? Everyone thinks he made the game thanks to all the whining. I'm sure that feels great.
No one whines as much as Boston.....with more technical fouls than anyone else in the league. (fact) Around the league, there is a home court advantage.....and no one can debate the referees tendency to lean in that direction. Boston, LA, Cleveland, and Orlando have all lost in Indiana, and it's not cause the Pacer are "all that". The league is interested in filling the seats at the home arena...$$$$$...bottom line. Across the league do a comparative check of trips to the line by the home and visitor teams.(facts) duh ! So many of you idiots state your opinions as facts.....go back to middle school with your insistance that you're always right. Opinions are valid or invalid based on substantive details, opinons are not "right or wrong"...Including the word "Incorrectly" by the instigating author
hows it feel cleveland!! we're finally good enough that everyone gets to hate on us! ha ha ha sit back and enjoy the haters. it will only get better!
I don't know about this particular game, but it is obvious to me the refs manipulate games every night. It may be a no call or a touch foul here and there to get the team that is behind closer, then the same calls go the other way to insure that the better team wins. I also see too many star fouls, where Kobe or Wade, KJ, or even Lebron get calls when no one even comes close to them.
The biggest whiner in Basketball is Phil Jackson. PERIOD. What a baby!
It's funny everytime the cavs complain about anything lebron is the no-call king. He has the refs in his pocket or something they need to change his name from the truth to the no-call king. Anyone can be the best in the league if the refs don't call the game fair.
