PHOENIX -- As the arena began to fill up, Dan Majerle was working on his half-court shooting, warming up for the Haier Shooting Stars event. FanHouse NBA writer and next-door neighbor on press row Brett Pollakoff said Majerle practices knocking down the shots from halfcourt before every Suns home game, but it didn't rub off on Saturday in Phoenix.
Team Suns, which included Majerle, Leandro Barbosa and the WNBA's Tangela Smith, knocked down the first five shots of the challenge in a row, but couldn't get the sixth from halfcourt in time, allowing Team Detroit, with Arron Afflalo, Bill Laimbeer and Katie Smith to take the crown. Detroit won with a time of 58.3, ended with a Smith halfcourter to take the first event of the night.
