Don't be surprised that the worst team in the league has also been the most active on the trade circuit this week. Sacramento continues its cost-cutting measures this morning, according to Sam Amick of the Sacramento Bee. The Kings have sent Shelden Williams and Bobby Brown to Minnesota for the expiring contracts of Rashad McCants and Calvin Booth.Brown is the only player in the deal with money owed in 2009-10, and it's a whopping $736,000 player option. But there is in fact a compelling storyline here: McCants and new teammate Francisco Garcia have an ongoing blood feud.
Amick reported the matter back in 2007.
The rivalry grew during summer league in July. Before Garcia was excused so he could go to New York and welcome his newborn daughter into the world, he had a very heated late-night exchange with McCants at the Palms casino in which I was told McCants had to be herded into an elevator to be taken out of the situation and Garcia was certainly not backing down.So the Kings have just added a player who had to be restrained from engaging in a fistfight with the incumbent small forward inside the casino run by the team's owners, a day after trading for Andres Nocioni, whose photo can be found in the Merriam-Webster entry for "fiery."
All the while, said team owners plot a reality show depicting the inner workings of an NBA team, with taping potentially beginning this spring. This team will be entertaining, dangit.
