Just a few hours ago, Memphis guard Marko Jaric's name bubbled up as the rumored Grizzly under police investigation for allegations of sexual assault. NBC Philadelphia now reports that no charges will be filed in the case, citing a "lack prosecutorial merit" in the allegations. That's a weird Friday for Memphis, for Jaric and to be honest, for the NBA media. NBC had the reported investigation before anyone and didn't jump on the SI.com report naming Jaric. (To my knowledge, NBC still has never mentioned Jaric in connection with this.) Frankly, we'd all be better off if Chris Mannix had not reported that the investigation was trained on Jaric, considering the conclusion.
But business is business, and Mannix had what-would-have-been a big scoop. "Don't hate the player, hate the game," right? When we report the NBA like Harvey Levin reports Hollywood (call me guilty in this case), names get dragged through the mud, sometimes without merit. All we can do is shout the "correction" as loud as we shout the accusation, which is what I hope we're doing here.
(While we're here: Mannix also didn't cite the NBC report. At all. Bad form.)
UPDATE: Mannix's story now cites NBC Philadelphia as having the initial story, and has quotes from Jaric's lawyer.

I hope Adriana Lima doesn't have any kids with this cyclops like freak. That would be a total waste of some primo DNA. What the hell was she thinking? I'm 50 pounds overweight and I'd be a huge upgrade on this dude. That blind guy Eddie that was a Jeopardy champion a few years ago would be a better fit for her. At least the kids would be smart.

I'm not a big believer in law suits but this is the exception. Nail Mannix's balls to the wall. This is the most serious accusation that can be made againts anyone and you better have your shit together before you yell fire.
