NBA Guide gives you a daily look at all the games that matter ... and some that don't. L.A. Lakers at Detroit, 7:30 PM ET
The Pistons remain one of the few teams to beat the Lakers in Los Angeles. Of course, when that happened, Allen Iverson, Rip Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace weren't all injured. Iverson's still out, and it's not apparent whether Hamilton or Sheed will be back tonight. (Judging by recent injury reports, Hamilton seems more likely than Wallace.)
But does it even matter? The Lakers are firing away, with Pau Gasol continuing a truly fantastic all-around season, the defense settling in to its new elite skin and Kobe ... being Kobe. The Lakers have been incredible since the season began. But the excellence is rhythmic now. It flows. The starts and stops have, for the most part, ended. Reasonable people expect a 7-0 roadtrip.
FanHouse's Matt Watson will be at the game this evening. Follow him on Twitter.
Phoenix at Portland, 10:30 PM ET, TNT
The Suns trekking off to the road -- not a good thing. Add consideration of Portland's excellent home record and this looks like a loss in the making for Phoenix, which needs every win it can get.
Miami at Chicago, 8 PM ET, TNT
Dwyane Wade had a rough go on Wednesday night, shooting poorly against a bad defensive squad and watching his Heat fall to Indiana. Chicago, of late, represents a tougher foe. Ben Gordon's as much of a flash as Wade on offense ... and B.G. has help. But Miami's defense could (should) make life difficult for the Bulls, and I have a hunch we'll be treated to a better game than those myriad suckfests we endured on national TV last season.

As for the Clippers GM post possibly opening, I think Mitch Kupchak or Earvin Johnson should be the job. I have taken Magic to task sometimes, because while he was a consumately team oriented pro ON the court, on so it appeared, intelligent, sensitive, caring deeply about bolstering the confidence of his teammates, not just winning, the means, not just the ends, off court he seemsed far too star struck. But he hasn`t died of his alleged gay aids yet, looks healthy though a bit chubby last I saw, and certainly knows basketball, and he and/or his partners seem to know business, too. And, of course, whichever one doesn`t become Clipper GM could be Laker GM. (And to clarify, Kaman, Camby, and Randy Dolph all are marginal all star post candidates at power forward or small center, marginal because they don`t win unless they are overshadowed by even better teammates, but that is true of Bosh, Garnett, and others as well. The East needs a large expansion in the number of West franchises, or something else to get quality athletes relabeled as Eastern players.) And maybe Dunleavy might prefer to work closer to Indiana, where his son currently plays, but is overshadowed by Granger and Murphy, and where they need some guards who don`t get booted out of town for legal indiscretions in the bars/clubs in the early morning hours -- a young Reggie Miler type would be wonderful for the Clippers as well as the Pacers.
