We showed you Ray Allen's cheap shot to the Cavaliers' Anderson Varejao on Sunday, and it seemed clear that something like that would be punishable by the league office. The NBA has weighed in, and as expected, Allen has been suspended for one game without pay for the incident.Now, some Celtics fans believe that Varejao threw Allen to the ground intentionally, which may have slightly justified Allen's response. To me it looks like they simply got tangled up, but no matter what Varejao's involvement, an elbow to the groin is about 50 times worse than being inadvertently tossed to the ground, isn't it?
Allen will serve his suspension this evening while the rest of his teammates (minus Kevin Garnett) take on the Sixers in Philadelphia. The game is essentially meaningless to the Celtics, so all it does is lighten Allen's wallet a bit, while giving him an extra night of rest before the playoffs get started. Not too stiff of a penalty, all things considered.

Ray Allen's elbow was not only cheap it was chickenshit, and gutless. If he wanted to make a stand about something he thought was out of hand by Varejao, then the manly response was to stand up and shove him back with a few choice words in his face. But Allen chose an elbow to the groin from the floor position. Wow, what a tough guy making a statement, next he'll probably bite his ear. Whether or not Varejao deserved a response to a tangle that was clearly of Allen's own making (he did wrap his arm inside Varejao in a 'block him out" attempt) it doesn't excuse the lack of class, and guts in his response. I'm sure the Celtics are awaiting the return of the true "don't mess with me" player on the court, KG and then Allen can go back to shooting 3's and avoiding contact as he usually does.

Since this game was the last of the season and it having no affect on the seedings the league should have suspended him for the 1st playoff game. You keep giving these dirty Celtics players these cheap punishments and they arent just going to keep doing it .... its gonna get worse and worse (as it has since it started after they got Garnett). All these slap on the wrist type penalties are a JOKE and have NO effect on the players. God it has gotten so bad over there in Boston with Garnett's "im above the law, above the rules, above the game" type behavior. First it was just him but now its extended to almost the entire team. Baby Davis, Pierce, Powe, Garnett, Garnett, Garnett, and now even the very respectable Ray Allen have all done something just disgraceful and uncalled for this season to an opposing player that shows the exact OPPOSITE of what a true champion with 3 allstar future hall of fame players is supposed to posess and show and lead by example with.

What an act of a puzzy by little Ray Ray. Garnett, Pierce, and little Ray Ray, one on one, are nothing at all. It wasn't until the Celtics got a gift from McHale that they even thought of being any type of a team again. Your no better than the Yankees, you bought a title, nothing more. Your scouting and players growing within your system is shot and nothing but underachievers. Your self proclimed mystic is all but gone. Even the biggest Celtic fan knows they have no shot at any title this year. The most classless team in the league. From top to bottom. It'll be another 20 years till you win a damn thing. Just watch.

I'm so sick of hearing from the "we bought a team" markets and their complaining about losing to smaller market teams. The Cavs beat the Celts and the Cavs have the best record in the NBA. Cleveland is not a large market team, but the Cavs put it all together and it's finally paying off. DEAL WITH IT!

Hey Kady the Kid, please remember your own franchise and that you won the vast majority many years ago with a Class player in Bill Russell, who, would have NEVER lowered himself to elbow anyone in the groin, regardless of a starter or sub. He did his talking on the court. Go buy yourself a video of him playing. He also went against much better players then than all but 3 or 4 teams in the entire watered down version of nowaday NBA teams. And by the way you saying you "know" Ray Allen is foolish, I bet you knew Mike Vick at one point as well. So, take away Russel and Cousey and there, what?, 12 championships, again, just like the Yankees and what they did many years ago, not ever again, just like your Celtic team,,,,never again. Last years team of "Thank God Bynum was hurt" champions won't be so lucky this year.
