Spurs lightning bolt Tony Parker ripped through the Mavericks Monday night on his way toward 38 points on 72 percent shooting and, of course, a Game 2 victory. Given the defensive backcourt struggles Dallas has had all season, this is not a surprise. Heck, in the first half of Game 1 Parker had his way with Jason Kidd! But enlightened Mavericks center Erick Dampier has a solution for Thursday's Game 3 in Big D: beat the snot out of the Frenchman.
Dampier vowed to Jean-Jacques Taylor of the Dallas Morning News that he'd make Parker feel the pain in Game 3:
"Parker got into the teeth of our defense and caused problems," he said. "Every time he drives the lane, we have to put him on his back. The first foul has to tell him he's in for a long night.Fantastic! Just the cure for what has been (ignoring Sunday's blow-out festival) an exciting, high-octane first round: East Coast defense from a 7-foot wall of bricks. Dallas fans might beg for an early assault of Parker, but the NBA at large hardly thirsts for that type of game.
"My first foul Thursday night is going to put him on his back. I guarantee it."
Regardless, Parker seems to have figured out a way to shoo J.J. Barea and Dallas has shown very little ability to intimidate Tony out of the paint. Damp's going to have to do a lot more than talk to change the tide.

Seems apropos given John Madden's retirement.
Ah yes...when you're too slow, you're not conscious enough or capable enough to defend or figure out an effective rotating defense, by all means, resort to thuggery in the name of "hard fouls" delivered in "it's a playoff atmosphere" justification. Yup...to have to "put someone on their back" in order to defend against their scoring ability and one's own inability to block or defend quickly enough is to simply admit one's own inadequacy...and then cover it up by aggression..YUPP that's manly alright, knock someone down who is completely off balance and could sustain a career ending injury, just so you don't look bad or get shown up...I hope Dampier does it and then I hope Stern suspends him for the series for 'malice aforethought' since he has clearly indicated his desire to injure...unless of course he's forgotten that the whole "putting someone on their back" thing happens onto an unforgiving hardwood floor with no certainty at all of what limbs might be underneath...
I don't think he says anywhere that he wants to hurt him. Sports have been "wussified". You can't control everything, people are gonna get injured no matter what they do. Basketball is a contact sport.
"DampMan" must be taking cues from Mark Cuban,..........only a pr--k like Cuban would use this tactic to make up for a lack of talent.
