Calling Game 6 of Bulls-Celtics epic is a vast understatement. The game was completely unbelievable. As in, if you didn't see it, you wouldn't believe everything that happened actually happened. I don't doubt trying to dissemble the game into mere memories will drive some fans mad with anxiety and frustration. The Bulls ended up victorious after four hours of battle with the defending champs. This series had already tied the NBA record for most overtime periods in a series ... before tonight's triptych of extra frames. And for each overtime, there was a mess of incredible and unforgettable plays.

Regulation even had some crazy! Rajon Rondo and Kirk Hinrich got into a tussle. Tangled, Rondo seemed to jerk Hinrich's arm, which served to throw Captain Kirk into the scorer's table. Hinrich is business, and bum rushed Rondo. Both fellows stayed in the game. They would figure in important moments later. (FORESHADOWING!)
Ray Allen's hand stayed on fire the entire game. He hit nine of 18 three-pointers, and scored a ridiculous 51 on the night. With 20 seconds left in the second overtime and the Celtics down three, Allen came off a screen in the right corner and nailed a long jumper. BUT ... his toes touched the line. The Celtics remained down one.
Brad Miller hit two free throws at the other end. With seven seconds left, Allen got free at the left elbow. You can guess what happened next. It involved twine and singing. This all led to the third overtime, which included the following:
* Joakim Noah steals the ball from Paul Pierce on a trap near midcourt, takes it the length of the floor, dunks the ball violently while drawing a foul ... Pierce's sixth.
* Glen Davis knocks Lindsay Hunter into 1973 with a pick that freed up Eddie House, who -- down three -- nailed a jumper from ... two inches inside the three-point arc.
* Up one with the shot clock off and 23 seconds left, Hinrich gets free under the rim. Instead of burning time and taking the foul, Hinrich goes for the lefty lay-up. He misses. Celtics rebound with the ball, a one-point deficit, a timeout and 16 seconds left.
* After the timeout, Rondo gets the ball and sets up left side. Derrick Rose cuts off the drive, and Rondo is forced to take a turnaround fade-away from 12 feet. And Rose blocks it. To save the game.
* Rose gets the ball, misses two free throws, and Rondo misses the desperation midcourt shot. Bulls win.
That was all just the closing moments of one of three overtimes! The rest was as crazy! We will be talking about this game and this series for a long, long time.
Game 7 is Saturday. I implore you to watch it.

Kevin "the mouth" Garnet was not too visible at the end. What a shame.

"pft" is code for "I wish the author would use English instead of Hip-Hop when writing a piece."
rondo touched the ball when it was going on on hinrichs layup
As a Celtic fan who has been watching them for 40 years, this is one of the two or three greatest series I have ever seen. The best was when they were down 3-1 to Dr. J. and the Sixers and then won three in a row to eliminate them. Truly epic.
Pierce gets his nose bloodied and gets stitches before he can return. Of course there was no foul on the play. Spare me. Talking about this call or that call in a triple overtime thriller like that is just plain stupid. What I saw was the best athletes in the world giving everything they had. That incredible contest where there could only be one last man standing is what sports is all about.
I've been watching basketball for a lot of years and this is the most suspenseful and exciting series I have ever seen. In that third overtime, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. Celtic fans will have dozens of "what ifs". If the Bulls had lost, their fans would have had the same number of "what ifs". There are so many plays to talk about that it is mind-boggling. I'll bet that Game 7 will have the highest TV ratings of any first round series in NBA history.
It would be nice if the people leaving comments here would have enough maturity to just appreciate a great basketball series and actually talk about THE GAME -- instead of childish, hate-filled slurs against opposing players, fans, or cities -- and endless bitching about the officiating. And I'm saying that as a Celtic's fan, even though we lost.
Gee....what a cryin shame....!
I HATE the CELTICS.....Hahahahaha!
Serves the Celtics right for being such dirty
low-life cheaters.....!
Celtics....Schmeltics.....LOL...!
Thanks Lop, for your intelligent comments. You always add some truly stimulating and thought-provoking input.
I just checked the stats and have this interesting little tidbit to share. After the first six games, Rajon Rondo is STILL averaging a triple-double in the playoffs.
21.5 Points, 11.7 Assists, 10.0 rebounds.
Pretty amazing. The rebounds stand out the most, when you consider that he is only a 6-1 point guard. He just turned 23 a couple of months ago and these playoffs could be his breakout moment that will propel his career into superstardom. If he could develop an outside shot, he'd be one of the most dangerous players in the league.
Uh......OK!?
Though the Bulls did their usual late-game collapse of a good lead in the 4th quarter (I blame their wannabe coach for this; Hinrich does not belong anywhere NEAR the court after about halftime, missing layups and such), I commend them on their commitment to defense and this unprecedented win. The Celtics were good, but Chicago was just better. This series is a classic; 3OT's?? REALLY?!
I listened ad nauseum last night as the announcers voices rose and they were excited every time a Chicago Bull did anythig. It was so obvious their bias showed. Also, I'll be glad to head back to Boston and see the facial antics of Miller and Noah erased.
Glenn...
I like saying things short and to the point!!!
