That forearm earned Lakers guard Derek Fisher a one-game suspension. If the Lakers had one concern heading into the postseason, it'd be point guard with sinking Jordan Farmar and green Shannon Brown. But Phil Jackson is forced to depend on the kids in Game 3, unless he has some (Lamar Odom-related) trick up his sleeve.
Fisher has argued that he mistimed his move, that he meant to fight through the screen but broke too early, which caused his arm to come up faster than he thought. To which the world (including Stu Jackson) replies, "B-A-L-O-N-E-Y." (No suspension for Kobe Bryant, by the way.)

stu made the right call on this one. Fisher deserved one game, even if scola flopped. I know a lot of laker haters will be clamouring for kobe's head but it's unwaranted given the situation. Upgrade it to a flagrant; end of story; let's get on with the rest of the series. It should be fun to watch......
I am a die hard Laker fan, and even if Fisher claims me mistimed his move to break through the screen, this play looked awfully obvious. Under the circumstances, I would agree with the suspension.
Totally worth it.
but Deron williams did the same thing against Bynum a couple weeks ago.
Consistency please.
Ok, I AGREE with this call, but why didnt Rando get a 1 game suspension for his? Agreeing with above poster, keep it consistent, NBA, you are starting to piss everyone off with your favoritism. Rando should have been suspended 1 game and who knows how that would have affected the outcome.
How do you figure? Rondo's play on Miller was for one intent only -- to stop a basket. He wishes that he had a better angle to get some part of the body other than the face. He didn't go rushing over from his position with a plan to slap Miller in the face.
In the next game, he was being shoved up the floor by Hinrich (probably being baited as a carryover from the previous game). He overreacted when he pulled Hinrich's arm, and it was the right call to give him a flagrant foul. But it's not like he had some pre-meditated INTENT in either case.
Fisher's foul was much different, because he wasn't even guarding Scola, yet with malicious intent he turned and slammed him to the floor. The way he was looking over his shoulder, you could tell that he was planning to do what he did.
INTENT is a key factor when considering suspensions.

Hell, in the NHL Playoffs, Washington's Donald Brashear got a six game suspension for a hit that was no dirtier than Fisher's!
Fish must have wigged out, that play made no sense whatsoever..
dude grow up Obama is your president and will be for sometime. and not half as doped up (pun intended) as your last chief exec.(your membership is showing)
Right on. Obama is a clueless fool, but also far more insidious than that.
Fisher's loss may have a silver lining. His shooting has been off for a while, and maybe the extra time off will help his shooting for game 4. After all, the Lakers just need a split in Houston. Also, the Lakers seemed to be better able to deal with the Rockets' quick guards when Brown and Farmar were in the game.
Another possibility is for the Lakers to go big (Ariza, Bryant, Odom, Gasol and Bynum) and use the size mismatches to post up the smaller Rockets.
Oh, and that was a very good flop on Scola's part. Its all about the flop on these plays. Mike Miller didnt flop, didnt get the call. Scola made it much worse then it was.
To all you people who say it was a flop, you do realize that Fisher it him so hard that he received a cut on his head from the contact he made with Scola's mouth.
I HOPE THE LAKERS GET BEATEN SO BAD, THEIR MAMA'S CALL THEM FUGLY!!!! Lakers are whiners and Deralict Fisher is an idiot that ought to get his face kicked in with Shaq's foot...at least he would be beter lookin.
Hey Matt, Laker hater, get a grip, Why would you call Fisher a deralict? He is a family man and a giver to the community. Haters are hard to read and answer because they are so clouded with hate they can't reason straight. GO LAKERS
Rite on fisher!!! Its about time someone on the lakers team starts playing physically. Its playoffs lakers need to stop playing nice !!!
You must hate my Lakers and Fisher!?
Just a hunch!!!!
By the way.....wasn't that an awesome game
yesterday???.....Hahahaha!
Go LAKERRRRRRRRS!
If you are a Houston fan, good suspension, if laker's fan: bad call. It was blatant period. Is the NBA infallible....no but they are getting it right about 95% of the time.
What a cop out by the NBA - shame on you Stu Jackson. Kobe throws a flagrant elbow (ala Dwight Howard) and gets nothing - Fisher throws some wimpy block and he gets suspended. You are the most hypocritical league there is.
Stars get the calls PERIOD ok. LA-ASS walks EVERYTIME drives to the basket. Michael in plain view pushed off before taking the shot that beat UTAH. Ron Asstest plays rough, so KOBE played rough right back. Folks IT'S CALLED BASKET, get over it.
