ORLANDO -- Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson will rejoin his teammates for practice Tuesday for the first time since his injury Feb. 2, still hoping to play in the NBA Finals that begin Thursday in Los Angeles against the Lakers.Nelson, who made the Eastern Conference All-Star team this season for the first time, has been out since right shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum. He has been pushing coaches and management to return for the playoffs.
"A miracle has to happen, but I haven't given up,'' said Nelson, whose rehabilitation is way ahead of the six months he was expected to need. "We'll see how it feels tomorrow. I'm getting ready.''
"I'd say there is a smidgen of a chance that he could play,'' Smith said Monday. "It's still a 'no,' in my mind right now, but his rehab to this point has been unbelievable. He may know something that we don't. We'll have to see in practice.''
Although Van Gundy sounded almost skeptical Monday about Nelson's possible return, he also was intrigued by the possibility. The Magic have been starting Rafer Alston at point guard and using Anthony Johnson in reserve. Nelson's return would change the rotation they have used throughout the first three rounds.
The Magic beat the Lakers twice during the regular season, and each time it was Nelson who led the charge. He had 27 points and five assists the first time. He had 28 points and eight assists the second time.
"It's fantasy land to think after not playing for four months you can step in and play at the highest level. That seems like a tall order,'' Van Gundy said. "You're not going to get the All-Star you had, but we'll watch him in practice and see where he is.''

I hope the Magic come to their senses. If the doctor said 6 months let it be 6 months and not 4 months. Why take a chance on ending Nelson's career, because he is young and wants to play. I doubt they want him to get hurt and say what if.

Bringing Nelson back now would be a huge mistake.
He can be a spark plug when he's on, But, he is to small to guard anyone. He's a huge liability on defense.
Size means a lot and he doesn't have it. That's why he is constantly getting hurt. He hasn't made it through a whole season yet.
And, the NBA Finals is no place to work yourself back into game shape.
A lapse for just a few minutes in just one game of the series can mean the difference between winning and losing a championship.
They can post him up every play. That's why the Cavs lost because they couldn't match up with the Magics size. Every time down the floor the magic had a mismatch.
And if not for the refs cheating so much for Lebron, the series wouldn't have been close. It should have been over in 4 games.
Matchups are everything in the playoffs. You need to exploit the other teams weaknesses and Nelson's only 6ft tall. He is a big weakness at the defensive end of the floor.

The Magic shouldn't mess with "what brought them here". Even if Nelson could play at a high level, the team will be entirely out of sync with him. You don't develop team chemistry overnight.
Maybe, if the Magic get down 0-2 or 1-3, maybe put him in to try something different to pull off a miracle but until that happens, "forget about it!"
