There's a little NBA trading spice coming out of Woj's internet-making machine recently, in the form of (another?) rumor involving Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo. This time, they were reportedly offered to Detroit in a deal that would have sent Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince and Rodney Stuckey to Beantown.(Quick aside: Is it just me or is the NBA offseason easily the most fun of any sport?) Anyway, it appears, based on Woj's sources, that this rumor is likely to gain very little steam, primarily because Danny Ainge is dealing with "Bring in Rasheed Wallace to win a championship" Joe Dumars, as opposed to "Draft Darko, Trade Chauncey for Iverson" Joe Dumars.
And, point in fact, it does make little sense for the Pistons to consider this deal: moving the three best players on their roster for a quasi-washed up shooter and Rondo -- when they already have the upside-riddled Stuckey -- would probably have been an awkward axe on Dumars' head, presuming, of course, that's he's not invincible based on a championship.
But, as Watson pointed out earlier, there shouldn't be anything surprising about the Celtics now making potentially drastic roster moves; they won their championship, what everyone said at the time -- limited window, etc. -- came to fruition and now Ainge needs a sucker to unload on in order to give this squad a shot at actually winning another title.
Presuming that Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce are staying put, it seems pretty obvious that Allen and Rondo are the guys to go, no? (Because the guys to go have to have value for someone else, unlike, say, Brian Scalabrine.) This makes it pretty clear that the Celtics are not a) going to ink Allen to anything more than his one year remaining (duh) and b) that they aren't positive Rondo is the truth part deux, despite his amazing playoff run.
Of course, it's also entirely possible (likely?) that Ainge can't find someone to dump Rondo and Allen off on; if that's the case, this is a Celtics team that can -- clearly, based on this year -- still compete. But they need health and some luck. And possibly the fountain of youth if that's not too much to ask.

You cannot be more wrong calling Allen quasi-washed up. Do you not recall about 10 unbelievable shots Ray hit during the Bulls series?? Allen is clearly one of the best shooters in recent time if not NBA history, and he is still as good today as he was 8 years ago. Quit being so critical, jesus.
do you not recall that he filed to show up for bout half that series and most of the next series against orlando
Allen is one of the best shooters of NBA history but he wasn't the ray allen of last year's playoff run
do you not recall that he failed to show up for bout half that series and most of the next series against orlando

Agree... Allen is a pure jump shooter... without Garnet drawing defenders, he cannot get clean looks... that is why he "disappears" from the game from time to time.
BUT when they needed him, he created his own shot and scored magnificently... I think this is a bad trade for the C's... who will be point guard... Marberry, Mr Mouth who cannot produce?
MAKE THE DEAL HAPPEN LETS GET RAY RAY AND RON-DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
This is a good deal for the C's, but makes little sense for the Pistons. But the Celtics absolutely have a shot to win another championship as they are, but as Ainge said, they are just trying to exlpore other possibilities (not "dump" them). They only are combining Ray and Rondo beacause Rondo has tremendous value and Ray only has a year left on his contract. And how can you call Allen "quasi-washed up"? He's is still an excellent and legendary shooter, and he's coming off one of his best years out of the last 5. Please, watch some of his regular season games before you proclaim that he's washed up. And honestly, that was just a cheap shot at Scal(haha). Also, Rondo is an unbeleiveable point guard and improving, which is why they ask for so much in return. Lastly, if they don't end up making a deal, they will be perfectly satisfied with the team they have(the C's).
The Celtics are old. They have to get younger to compete with the other teams. The big three was only good for that one season and that was it. They were not going to beat the Lakers this year with WHACKY GAR-NOT. Detroit does not realize that Wallace is the problem on that team. Billups was not the problem. That was a bad trade. Iverson was a scoring player, he did not fit what the Pistons tried to do. That coach is not that good either. Prince,Stuckey and Hamilton would help any team. But going to the Celtics and playing that Pierce crap and that phony Gar-Not crap is not worth it. That Piston ball was terrible at times during the season. Maybe Dumars can get Lambier to take over the coaching duties. And don't forget, the Piston team with Billups got a coached fired prior to the coach they have now. So the Pistons have some real problems and Iverson did not cause them(before Iverson).
Ray and Rhondo are great players who held their own in the playoffs. Much better than Hamilton.
That happens I'll be a Detroit fan for sure.
ru n-ts?rodney stuckey is better than rajon and allen isn't better than a healthy rip hamilton
who is perhaps the best midrange shooter in the nba-add tayshaun ? yep for garnett-that is what they are really talking about!
This is an interesting proposition, (almost) tempting as a Piston fan, but i'd say no to this offer. Stuckey is young and as good as he has shown he can be, he is going to get better. Detroit is a weakened team after the disasterous trade, Stuckey is one of the highlights of the team with his great potential. Prince..still in his prime and just might thrive with some different players since Dumars set things in motion that can't be undone. Prince has more value than to be traded in a deal like this. What i think Prince needs to get ultimum production of his talent is consistency in the team as a whole. Rip was not happy this year. For a while he was coming off the bench to AI. As soon as he got his starting spot back he looked much more like his usual self while AI faded into the sunset. AI should have finished the season even if it meant a quick exit in the playoffs. I love Ray Allen and Rondo is also a young PG who has much future potential but i think the C's are asking too much from the Pistons. Picture Allen and Rondo with the remaining Pistons as opposed to the Pistons who would go to Boston and the picture looks like too good of a deal for Boston. I doubt Dumars would go for it but he's the same guy who hired Curry and traded Billups so you never know what he will do. That concerns me, we will see soon what he does with FA's, i hope he can get a few proven solid players w/out having to trade the core of the current team to do it, kind of defeats the purpose..imo.
