The bad gets worse. Rockets team doctor Tom Clanton confirmed to the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen that Yao Ming's broken foot is so serious it could end the center's career. Earlier Monday, Yahoo!'s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that outside general managers had gotten the sense in dealings with Houston's Daryl Morey that Yao's injury is much worse than anyone had thought, to the point the Rockets could be without their talisman for the entire 2009-10 season. But the coda from Clanton -- marking this fracture as the most serious injury in Yao's accursed reign -- bodes more doom than one more lost season. As you well know, the Rockets without Yao is like a jazz quartet without the bass or piano. He's not just the face of the franchise. He's the spine, the legs and the arms, too.
Yao has been in China since the end of the Rockets' season, a Game 7 loss in the conference semifinals against the Lakers. If this injury does indeed claim Yao's 2009-10 or (heavens forbid, truly) his career, we can expect some measure of finger-pointing between Yao's Chinese camp and the Rockets staff. Morey and team owner Leslie Alexander have always been completely professional in dealing with the Chinese interests, and vice versa. But when Rushmore crumbles, there's nothing to do but yell and scream. Stay tuned while (obviously) hoping for the best.

big freekin deal!! (actually... big 7 and a half foot freekin deal!!) who cares.... he'll enjoy a retirement with alot less health issues than if he continues, anyway.... look at all the former (retired) giants of the NBA.... they're all crippled up!!
enjoy your retirement YAO!! there's plenty of good talent ready to fill his shoes (so to speak...)

Some Chinese doctors will inject him with stem cells and his foot will miraculously heal. Or he figures out that it would be easier to stay in China and become a national spokesman. In any case I think Yao will still land on his feet. Even if one is broken.

When I heard that Yao would be playing hard basketball all year long (as off-season property of Red China), I opposed drafting him and called for a major trade to build a real top-line team. For the last two years, I have supported trading him while the Rockets could still get something in return. Now it may be too late, and the Rockets may be long-term cellar material.

The Rockets desperately need a new direction. Yao has been a sidestep. Good for publicity, but not championship material. Frankly we should just pay Matumbo the extra dollars, so he can help build more hospitals in the Congo.
We need a center with more strength, and speed. I would even give up 6" of height, for 6" inches of biceps. Yao will never bring us the championship. Just like Carr was never going to get it done. Why cant we admit our mistakes and move on. I think we should keep Yao if he recovers, my offer would be $2M a year, 5 year contract. Thats it.

The good news is, anyone can be a pundit on the internet. The bad news is, anyone can be a pundit on the internet. For the retards who did anything but offer condolences to a fine athlete and a true gentlemen like Yao Ming, spend your time doing something constructive, like using your electric razor to shave your knuckles in the bathtub. It makes me despair for America that morons like you are allowed to breathe the same air as sane human beings.

Yao has most definately been the cornerstone of Houston's team, I wish him a heathly future that will involve him in the NBA in some capacity. But I truly hope he will heal and still play a few more seasons. He has always been a class act and gives his all.

due to Yao having such chronic issues with his feet he should've been pulled 'immediately' when the injury was noticed. had he been we may not be having this conversation.

he will sit out the year and come back. I've had many fractures and believe me they heal.
so whats all the panic about. Just don't let him stand on it for anything for about 7 weeks. Thats my advice.

Feet heal slower than any other part of the body though, and probably even more so for a guy his size

One of the most underrated player of al time! I wish him well but, go back to China and, learn how to something else. NBA needs to keep it within our own country. The NBA looks foolish when we get these people from other countries and, than when it comes time for Olympics their playing for their country while they're making there living here. What was the point for Ricky Rubio to come to America, get drafted and than decide he might want to stay in Spain...its bullshit.

Yao Ming is the best player in Rockets team. I cant imagine the rocket team without him. He is the tallest player in his team; it would be a big disappointing for his tem if he can’t play 2009-2010, because there is a lot of big tournament coming in this season.
