Stephon Marbury is one of those weird characters who has just the right mix of "crazy" and "keepin' it real" where you can't ever be sure whether to trust or distrust him. Personally, I think he's a bad apple who keeps getting too many chances, but some people feel differently. After Marbury recently did a Knickerbocker-beat-down of an interview with the New York Post, I would imagine no one who plays professional basketball in the Big Apple is much of a fan either. Marbury's quotes are full of disparaging remarks, as he essentially urged any free agents to avoid Donnie Walsh and Mike D'Antoni like the plague.
"I wouldn't want to play in that system,'' Marbury told The Post. "That system can't win championships. You can't win championships if you don't talk about defense. In Boston, the coaches even play defense.''Marbury also mentioned that his time in New York "mentally damaged" him and pointed out that much of his release process was "personal." But perhaps the most damaging -- provided that you believe what he says anyway -- were his comments about the coach and president of the Knicks:
"Mentally, what I had to deal with, the process with D'Antoni, the president (Donnie Walsh), it was mindboggling,'' Marbury said. "Two people can't make a decision and they have to go above them to Mr. Dolan."I say "most damaging" just because most people believe that regardless of the damage that Isiah Thomas wrecked while in NYC, there seemed to be at least some change of culture with the presence of D'Antoni and Walsh. Marbury's comments -- particularly with the reference to Dolan -- seem to indicate otherwise.

steph,
i find it very unprofessional of you to take a cheap shot at the knicks after things didn't work out between you and them. Karma will bring your ignorant comments back to you, possibly by cursing you till the miserable end of your miserable, pathetic career. You Never deserved any of the contracts you signed, and you acted like a baby when all the drama was going on. If you remember, Dantoni asked you to play and you refused. In essence, you blew your chance. Moving on, I do not think any of the Real Stars in the NBA would ever listen to a word coming from your mouth. In addition, it honestly makes you look like a moron and your just jealous you wont be there when the Knicks start winning again, which by the way, is coming sooner than expected. Enjoy riding Boston's bench, that is, if they even sign you again. Of course you would publicly announce your willing to take more money, because your NOT a Star and you know they wouldnt give you anywhere near what the drugged up Isaih "worst GM/coach ever" gave you. Good luck finding a team who wants your washed up ignorant self. And, for the record, you will never be the same player you once were after the "mental pain" you put your own self through with the Knicks. Good bye and take care, your a never was, and a never will be.. Adios
You said it better than I could and I'm a Celtic fan.
u r an idiot bcuz that knick system with that dumb coach and president they r not winning no championship no time soon.and boston is a better team than the knicks and they have a championship which the knicks dont have and will never have
Hoopstar, U R the idiot. The Knicks won two championships in the 70's.
Morons in chatrooms.
I agree he could have won a championship in Minn
with Garnett had he not been so stupid and selfish they could have formed a dynasty with a few other pieces added in. What a dummy I hope he doesn't get to ride the coat tail of Garnett now to win a Championship.
Can NBA players be held reliable for slander?
If so, look out Starbury.
How about Dumbury. He deserves everything he got. Don't blame the Knicks blame yourself "Big Baby".
Starbury what an idiot he has never one a thing except a pair of cheap sneakers for $9.99. since that idiot said he was the best point guard in the nba he hasn't done crap, thats why boston didn't win a championship because he is bad luck for any team that he's on. and mr. hater truck head you are jealous that nobody wants u in NY or in brooklyn, go play for real madrid idiot!
Gee, hello Captain Obvious!!
Starbury cementing his position in the egoic idiot hall of fame...the self proclaimed "best point guard in the NBA" has proven to be anything but, and mostly an on the court and in the locker room cancer...he's better at standing up for his peeps by giving them 9.99 shoes...
learn how to spell before you go insulting people "he never one anything"? don't you mean won?
Starbury, you are one ignorant piece of goo!! You must be T.O.'s twin brother. You are both cancers in your respective leagues. How fun it is to watch real players such as Kobe, Dwight and LeBron play real basketball. You, my ignorant non-friend, are an overpaid, overrated NOBODY!! You and Isiah should plan for the next celebrity jungle show and go f--- yourselves!!! Good riddence....
This is backwards. The Knicks are fine; NBA players should avoid Starbury.
Hey Starbury! Why don't you jump into the backseat of your car with some drunk whore from the celtics just like you did with the one from the knicks. I'm sure that they both will be able to compare your "shortcomings." You've been a loser with every team you've played for and you always will be.
Marbury is symbolic of everything that is wrong in sport today.
I'm not defending Steph but the entire Knicks organization proved to be a classless, losing lot. MSG management is no better, with their culture of sexual harassment and coverups. They defamed one of the greatest arenas & sports organizations in the world and in my opinion Steph & the Knicks & MSG deserved eachother.
He made some good points about the organization, the current coaching system NEVER wins championships. I'm not a big fan of this guys but if he is right about our management team the word will get around real quick and you may as well forget about Lebron James. One thing about LBJ is he has a nice set-up in Cleveland and loves his team. I personally don't think he would ever come to NYC, He has 40,0000 square foot house in the burbs on 8 acres and is only 30 minutes from quicken loans arena. It might be a little difficult to get that so close in NYC
he can't be all that bad, he does make affordable shoes for the youngins, that's gotta count for something?
What a shock, huh? Here's a thought: maybe if Marbury hadn't developed a reputation as a selfish player with the Timberwolves, Suns and Nets, he wouldn't get the treatment he received in his hometown, and hence he wouldn't tell free agents to stay away from the Knicks. As they say, you reap what you sow, and Marbury sowed nothing but a "me first" attitude. Good luck winning a title with that mentality, Steph.
yet another example of an overpaid moron who thinks his opinion means something because he used to be able to play basketball. The only words you should be speaking is to thank god and your parents for your talent so you could earn more money than you ever deserved playing sports rather than flipping burgers or slinging trash which would have surely been your fall back career. Get another tattoo on the side of your punk-azz head and shut your mouth. No one cares!
