LAS VEGAS -- Portland assistant coach Monty Williams did not coach the Trail Blazers against the Toronto Raptors on Monday as he was interviewing with Minnesota GM David Kahn for the vacant Timberwolves coaching job. Williams, 37, a former Notre Dame standout and NBA player, is regarded as a top assistant coach who may be ready for his own club. Minnesota may be looking for a first-time coach to lead the organization's rebuilding program after finally separating with Kevin McHale. Kahn backed out of a media obligation Monday to conduct the interview. Lakers assistant Kurt Rambis, Rockets assistant Elston Turner and TV analyst Mark Jackson have already talked to Kahn, who is also trying to lure Ricky Rubio into playing this season for Minnesota.
