About two months after the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury debuted that league's first sponsored jerseys (as seen on De'coe Willingham at right), the NBA has announced it will allow teams to stick ads on practice jerseys this fall. NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver told USA Today that the league will continue to study the practice of sponsored game jerseys while allowing teams to sell space on practice jerseys.

It's a shift from the league's position upon the Mercury announcement in June. Back then, league officials told FanHouse the NBA had no immediate plans to offer sponsorship opportunities on uniforms. Clearly, the practice jersey decision is the gateway to a quick liberation of the game jersey space. Expect some fans to revolt over it, though I honestly don't think it's a big deal (unless unsavory corporations find their way onto the uniforms).
