The New York Knicks haven't made the playoffs since the 2003-04 season, and few expect them to break that streak this spring. However, second-year Knicks forward Al Harrington appears confident enough to predict that the orange and blue will finally return to the postseason this year. Yes, you read that correctly.FanHouse spoke to Harrington at the NBA Live 10 launch event on Tuesday about why this Knicks team will be surprise many of their doubters. The video interview is below.

oh god don't start with the guarantees...
At least it is less insane than Caron Butler saying the Wizards will compete for a championship this season. Walsh and D`Antonni have both had teams make the playoffs in the past, and this team does have SOME talent, though it is big and slow by the standards usually associated with D`Antonni. Main problem is aging Larry Hughes has not proven alternate at wing guard, but that may be more a problem for the future than the present IF Hughes stays healthy. They could stand more speed at wing forward, too, since the have a speed oriented coach. I like size, not just speed, so this roster is less bad for my tastes than D`Antonni`s. Walsh` influence. Most folks like size more than D`Antonni is known for.
This guy is a total idiot, his team mates need to beat the hell out of him. He has just offered a season long challenge for the team and city have hanging over their heads......Dumbass, how about this,,,,,Keep your mouth shut, collect your money and play ball. If you do well and you team does well, the playoffs will come.
I mean I know you have 2 years under your belt and you know all about the league, and you have a total assessment of all the NBA teams and players, but how about keeping your dumbass thoughts amounst yourselves and quit looking for something to woooo the reporters with
Matt
you are the misinformed lack of knowledge person her Al harrington has been in the NBA for years, straight from high school to Indiana and other teams like Atlanta, LA Clippers before coming to the Knicks..he knows more about what he is saying than you.. So the jokes on you..Matt
Knicks in SIX!!! HA,HA,HA,...
as a knick fan i must say we do have a chance i mean after all teams do start out 0 and 0 but we will see what happens maybe a big mid season deal or even before the deadline could help us out
Hey the guy asked him a straight forward question and he gave a straight forward answer. What's he supposed to say, NO! C'mon now...
You're right and I didn't hear the word guarantee. They always have to take something small and try to make a big deal out of it.
omg....thank u karen.....u are absolutely correct. what else would he say.
Playoffs? Playoffs? You wanna talk playoffs?Playoffs? To quote Jim Mora. They will be lucky to finish th regular season.
I have no problem with his gurantee that the Knicks will make the playoffs. If the team truly commits to playing decent defence then they'll win more games. As a Knick fan, I'm tired of not being able to watch a playoff game with our team. Now if he could put that passion into all his teammates, then I think we will be watching the Knicks in the 1st round. Gotta have the Passion!!!
Come on, people--athletes make guarantees all the time. Everybody knows the only guarantee in life is that there are none. Why take Harrington seriously when the preseason just barely began? I'm a Knicks fan, and even I have to take this with a grain of salt. Move on, folks.
Has Al forgotton about Shaq and LeBron?
Anyone that slams this guy has no clue. It early, he and his team have goals, and they feel they have a chance. What the hell do you morons want him to say? Oh, sorry, we suck and there's no way we can make the playoffs? What the hell is the matter with believing in yourself and your team? After all the stupid comments we've been blessed with from athlete's over the years, it's refreshing to hear someone like him.
The Eastern Conference is weak, why can't they make a run at the playoffs. They improved last year and have a better team now Playoffs for the Knicks yeah
It is Caron Butler who conviently forgot Cleveland, Orlando, Boston, in his own conference, and the Lakers, etc., in the West. He should have said what Harrington did, guaranteed making the playoffs. That would have been going out on a limb, but not nearly so unreasonably. The Knicks have reasonably good players, and depth, at most positions. Lee was a legit all star candidate last season, didn`t make it, partly because the team wasn`t winning. But a good rebounder, good field goal percentage shooter. Robinson and Harrington can score. Duhon can pass. Center is a question, with Curry and James not healthy, but Milicic is a decent center who can also play forward. Hughes is old, but if he stays healthy, can score. The wings need more depth/speed if the Knicks are to play D`Antonni style. But the team has decent size for a set up, slow down, team. They should be able to play playoff style, not winning playoff quality, basketball. It is going to be a battle for 4th in the east, but the Knicks only have to get 8th to make the playoffs. That is reachable, as weak as the east has been. Robinson is too small to make all defense, but is athletic enough to block Yao`s shot, despite the 5`9 to 7`6 size difference. Quality wise, Krypto-Nate is really their best scorer, though Harrington gets more points. At 250, he`s not too small. He out weighs their best rebounder, Lee, by 15 pounds.
Typical teaser to get you to read the article. He never once guaranteed anything. The question was do you think you will make the playoffs and he said yes. If he said no I would not want him on my team. Terrible job of amateur reporting.
i think he is right. the knicks are a team that barely missed last year. they were in contention till they lost steam at some point after the all star break last year. more experience and more talent and desire to grab some great free agent next year will boost the teams play . i aint no knick fan the heat are my team but the knicks as of right now have a better chance than the heat do at rising again.
East is weak? I thought Boston played in the east remember people Boston beat that same L.A. team the year b4.Now L.A. does have the criminal Artest but Boston picked up sheed so to me thats a wash plus Artest will prob get sus b4 the playoffs The Knicks could make the playoffs due to the bottom few teams that do sometimes have losing records like philly atlanta miami I would be surprised though alot of those teams have also got alot better.
Artest isn`t a criminal. You must be thinking of the Bushes, Sr. who violated the express will of congress, and violated US law, topling the UN member government in Nicaragua because 60 Minutes had reported the Cia he had led funded its black ops by selling drugs in the US, imported thru Nicaragua on Cia planes. An accurate assessment of how the drugs were flown in, Bush admitted, but he claimed it was the Nicaraguan leader at fault for what the Cia planes did. And Jr., who also violated US law, toppling UN member governments in Afghanistan and Iraq. All Artest did was go into the stands in Detroit to chat with a fan who`s thown a drink at him, and the fans rioted, perhaps thinking he was going to be violent, not just chat. Wasn`t HIS fault THEY weren`t civil. If a 265 lbs. powerhouse wanted to chat with me, knowing I couldn`t out run him, much less out fight him, I would certainly try chatting, not rioting, but then, I don`t get liquored up, like some folks do. The top three teams in the east are championship contenders, it is DEPTH beyond that where the East is weak. The west had over 500 teams miss the playoffs, the east had under 500 team make the playoffs. As for Harrington {Cute earrings. () :-( ], he volunteered he thought the team had a good chance to make the playoffs, then said YES when asked if he thought the team would make the playoffs. May not happen, but is certainly a realistic possibility. New York gave up Richardson to get Milicic, so he wasn`t an add, and every team drafts rookies. Team improvement will hinge largely on Harrington being in training camp this year, he wasn`t last, the possibility Darko will be a better blend than Quentin, and James and Curry getting healthy, if that happens. I think they have a realistic chance. Darko can`t be expected to be an all star candidate, but he is a legit center, who can also play some forward, and will likely need all that finesse to have much chance to play for a small ball coach like D`Antonni has been so far.
